Ok man, hold your horses. Don't go crazy now. Anyway, TB doesn't deserve a baseball team. I'm watching the game now, and if I didn't know any better, one would think that TB is in last place. I'm willing to bet there's no more than 15,000 at the game.

I'd rather have Scioscia.

Oh look Fuld hits a single and then JoeMa makes Jennings bunt to put Fuld in scoring position, which is what we should have done the last inning . Although that would require us to actually get a hit with a RISP. I still say binder Girardi's ass.

If they don't make the playoffs with that payroll, I expect heads to roll.

They'll get rid of other people before Socia goes.

Just look at all the injuries the Rangers have had this year. Even with all of those and the hitters not hitting for a month we're still first in the west.

The Angels were not competitive before he arrived. Not only he turned the team into a WS contender just about every year, he helped shape the farm system as well. Artie Moreno wouldn't get rid of him that easy (there's not really anyone out there that might be available that's a improvement over him).

Not only 1st in the west, but also the best record in the AL . All teams go through injuries. You still got to go out and play. No team is going to feel sorry for you (especially not for the Yankees).

Because one championship is peanuts right?

Scioscia pretty much has immunity like Bobby Cox had and rightfully so.

As a Floridian I hate to admit it but we don't deserve any MLB team. One of the biggest excuses for poor attendance among Florida teams was always the fact that the Marlins and Rays had crappy stadiums. Well The Marlins got a new stadium this season and after a strong start attendance has plummeted. Their already down to a little over 20k per game and dropping as the season draws on.

Same deal with the Rays. I've been to games at Tropicana Field and it SUCKS. But that being said I bet even a new stadium in a better location (central Tampa) attendance would still suck. The only games the Rays draw big crowds in vs. the Yankees or Red Sox, mainly from fans of those teams showing up. For this season Tampa is dead last in MLB with 20k per game.

Most people in this state are transplants who already root for some other team. Heck, I'm a lifelong Floridian and root for the Braves because they were the closest thing we had to a team up until the early 90's. I try to care about the Rays but I just don't.

The funny thing is that the majority of the people at the game are Yankee fans. The Rays should move to a state a little further north (like North Carolina to the city of Charlotte).

I actually did go to one Yankees @ Rays games a few years back. It was a weekend game and there was a decent crowd of maybe 30,000 or so. I'd estimate at least 2/3rds of the crowd were Yankees fans.

Even when Tampa made the World Series their home games that series had a crazy number of Phillies fans.

That could actually work. The Carolinas could probably support a MLB team. I'd imagine the Braves are the favorite team in that region at the moment since like Florida it's the nearest team and TBS/TNT always carried their games.

It's a real head scratcher. I even had heard that some of those WS games at TB were not sellouts. But yeah, like I was stating before, The Rays should be moved out of TB (perhaps to Charlotte and rename them the Charlotte Coasters?).

I'm not saying it's peanuts, but in the past 10 years he has 1 championship. When did Bobby Cox have anywhere close to the payroll that Scioscia has right now? With an inflated payroll, comes greater expectations. Maybe he won't get canned in the offseason if he misses the playoffs this year, but do you honestly think Moreno is going to sit on his hands if he misses the playoffs next year with that payroll? Let's also not forget that his close friend and hitting coach Mickey Hatcher was canned just earlier this year.

Well I'm a Braves fan and always loved Bobby Cox. That being said our payroll in our peak years under Cox was consistently near the highest in MLB thanks to Mr. Turner. It's just that in those days top payrolls were a fraction of what they are today.

Just for kicks here's what payrolls looked like in 1995, the year Atlanta won it all. Braves were 3rd in payroll. Toronto had the highest in MLB. The top teams had payrolls roughly 1/3 to 1/4 what they do these days.

Highest Payrolls:

Toronto Blue Jays $ 49,791,500
New York Yankees $ 46,657,016
Atlanta Braves $ 45,199,000

Bottom Teams:

Pittsburgh Pirates $ 17,043,000
Milwaukee Brewers $ 16,189,600
Montreal Expos $ 12,031,000

Look at the discrepancy between the lowest and highest. In reality, it's not that much.

It's roughly triple the payroll. And oddly enough triple is about the same gap between top and bottom payroll teams these days.
