That's one hell of an inflation.

The actual inflation rate would only put the salary at around 75 million.

I imagine that's part of it. A very small part though. Inflation hasn't been anywhere close to that high. I have trouble figuring out how teams are operating on triple the payroll and still making a profit. These teams can't be raking in triple what they did barely a decade and a half ago.

When did the luxury tax and revenue sharing start? I suppose that's how the lower level teams stay profitable. The Yankees (and to a lesser extent other big market teams) payroll exploding over that period probably caused some trickle-down effect.

Here's some depressing deflation...

Braves 2012 payroll - $ 83,309,942
Braves 2003 payroll - $ 106,243,667 (Our peak team payroll)

This is what happens when you go from a great owner who cares about winning to a bunch of money-grubbing d-bags.

TV contracts have also exploded during this time, largely because of companies like ESPN showing how much you can charge for sports.

I'm sure they'll be selling it off in the next few years. Their tax benefit ends this year.

That's why I rooted r the phillies in that rays world series as much as I despise Philly seeing all those clappers and cow bells they had in the packed rays stadium just gave me the wrong vibe cause you knew they were all bandwagoners. And then they price hiked season tickets on guys like dick vitale who was going to like every game lol

Why is it, every year, when the penant race gets hot and the boston/yankee fans start to sweat, the subject is about the rays fans. Last time I checked, a teams win/lose record decided things, not fan attendance.

And $106,243,667 is about $132,287,223 in today's dollars.

Sadly this is it right here, its also a very big reason TV costs for the consumer have risen. Rising ticket prices and MLBPA have also screwed the fans and the game. MLB seriously needs a hard cap like the NFL and NHL it is the only way that things will stop getting out of control and back to normal. There is no reason anyone in MLB should be making 200 million plus for a kids game.

On a Side not McCarthy OUCH

Back-to-back 1-0 wins for the Braves over the Rockies! First time the Braves have done the back-to-back 1-0 wins since 1971!

Also, the Braves only run in both games were scored on errors.

We need to take at least 3 out of 4 from the O's.

I'm shocked that didn't happen in the 1990's. Probably because our awful relief pitching would blow those 1-0 games.

Then we'd leave still with a 1 game lead. Not good enough. We need to put some distance from them.

Back to back 1-0 wins (via an unearned run both times) by the Braves.

Must be a first for that to happen.

Probably also had to do with only scoring 1 run twice in a row.
