Red Sox haven't been in the playoffs since 2009.

With the O's pitcher moving his front foot up and down in the set, how is that not a balk?

I'm convinced balks are something that the Umps themselves don't, in fact, know all the rules for.

But then the Balk rule itself is absurd. You aren't allowed to do one of these 82* separate actions. Anything else is fine.

I've seen balk calls over stupid things.

But each lift of this pitchers leg would make the runner think he's about to throw the ball. To me it looks like a fake attempt to the plate, even though I know he's not doing it, but still.

Lockouts can be a very powerful drug.

I can't wait until Sam Holbrook is an umpire in a game in Atlanta. He's joined a small list with Eric Gregg and Drew Coble that Braves fans will never forgive.

I will put Eric Gregg's calls as worse than Holbrook's. Gregg's directly cost a team a game...

What a collapse by the Rangers. Washington is going to get a lot of crap for this.

I'd fire him. His insistence on consistency is not a good thing.

If Mike Trout was on the Rangers he would have played in like...5 games all season.

You know what though, as a Braves fan back in the day, Greg Maddox and Tom Glavine were getting those calls for years.

I'm not sure if he should be fired. 2 World Series in 2 years is nothing to sneeze at. But I definitely think his seat is getting warmer.

Not in the other batter's box, like with McGriff's strike out. Sure, Maddux and Glavine had an extra ball-width zone on the corners, but Gregg's calls that day were ridiculous, and only went to Livan Hernandez. Maddux got none of those calls that game.

I wouldn't fire him. Look what happened to the Red Sox when they freaked out after their collapse. Then look at what happened to the Braves. They stuck with the same team, and won more games.

Sometimes collapses are just flukes, and not indicative of the team.

Well to be fair the situations in both ATL and BOS were completely different. The clubhouse in BOS was toxic while the ATL clubhouse was definitely not.

This is the type of thing that completely ruins a season as a baseball fan. My biggest problem with the whole thing isn't so much the season ending in (largely man-made) disaster.

It's that one of my favorite players of all-time and a future HOF'er had his career end like this. As a lifelong Braves fan I still remember the 1996 NLCS. The Braves played the Cardinals and won in 7 games. Late in game 7 Ozzie Smith was up for what all the fans knew was his final at bat as he was retiring and the Braves led something like 15-0. Even though the game was in Atlanta the Braves fans game him a standing ovation with chants of his name. That's how HOF careers should end. It shouldn't have to end with a monumental screwjob like Chipper got in his final game. Oh well...

I have a funny feeling Detroit beats Oakland in that LDS matchup.
Wow I didn't even notice that this year! You get home field advantage, but not until the final three games? That doesn't make sense. What is going on with sports this year.
