Anyway, I'm not too concerned about what happened 6 years ago. The current Tigers team is better than the 2006 team (especially the starting pitching staff).

If they keep playing the way they have been, they're going to be tough to beat.
Ya, 2006 has nothing to do with this season. The only starter left in Detroit from their 2006 team is Verlander. Almost no position players remain either.

I have no allegiance to the AL. I like the Cardinals because when I was a kid I would go to almost every game for their single A club in St. Petersburg with my mom. They are my favorite NL team. I like them but nowhere even close to the Yankees.

lol I guess you could say that. Unlike most Yankee fans, I actually grew up in the Bronx in Pelham Bay and used to go to Yankee games all the time. I would even cut high school classes to go to Yankee games

The one guy on the Yankees I do feel bad for is Ichiro. The poor guy made the playoffs his rookie year and then Seattle hit the crapper and he missed the playoffs 10 straight seasons. This was his best chance at a ring in over a decade and he was one of the few Yankees to play well this series. Sad way for him to go out.

Congrats on your team making it to the WS. They clearly outplayed us. With that, I'm done with the 2012 MLB season. See you all in 2013.

So it's Zito up against the Cards tomorrow night...The Cards hit lefties well, even out left handed batters.

Hope Beltran is feeling better, if not MCarp is doing a fine job in there.

Lynn makes me a bit nervous. He could be his 18 game winner, or the reason he moved to the bullpen.

Yesterday was a bad day for the Swisher household. In addition to the Yankees being eliminated Nick's wife JoAnna Garcia's show Animal Practice was canceled.

If a team could just throw money at a team, then the Yankees and Phillies would meet in the World Series every year. Good job to the Tigers. This is the first time in my life that I've ever seen the Yankees swept from the playoffs.

If I were you I wouldn't even talk about overspending on contracts, considering your teams former owner is personally responsible for turning baseball into the contract joke it has become.

Alex Rodriguez at 3rd Base 10 yr/$275,000,000 2017
C.C. Sabathia at Starting Pitcher 8 yr/$186,000,000 2015

Yankees offered what 7 contracts before they finally got Sabathia to sign first offer was 16 million he said no... in typical NY fashion toss money at it until they say yes, ended up signing for what 21/22 million a year?

Now lets look at your history for horrid contracts

Roger Clemens - 2007 (1 yr 28M)
ok it was prorated since he joined late and I think he wound up earning 18.7 million for his time. He went 6-6 with a 4.18 ERA and left after 2 innings in the playoffs and never pitched again.

Carl Pavano - 2005 (4 yr 39M)
Only pitched 26 games over 4 years, spent the rest of the time on the DL for many different reasons.

Steve Karsay - 2002 (4 yr 22.5M)
I cant believe they gave someone with a history of arm injuries that much money for that many seasons. He is the first of several pitchers on this list that had 1 good season for the Atlanta Braves, which then earned them millions with the Yankees. Karsay pitched 78 games in 2002 for us and was solid, but after that pitched 13 games over the next 3 seasons due to injuries and eventually getting released.

Jason Giambi - 2002 (7 yr 120M)
Batted .342 for Oakland in 2001 so this seemed like the right deal to make. Batted .314 in 2002 with the Yankees, then batted about .250 just about ever year after, also really couldnt play good defense on first.

Nick Johnson - 2010 (1 yr 5.5M)
He had a series of injuries throughout his Yankee career, especially in the minors, then had even more injuries playing for the Nationals. Despite all this he gets 5.5M plus an option for 2011. In return he batted .167 and played only 24 games due to injury.

Jared Wright - 2005 (3 yr 24M)
Like Karsay, Jared Wright also had a history of injuries, and also was coming off one good season with the Braves. He had average numbers with the Yankees and spent most of 2005 on the DL. He retired in 2007 at age 31.

Kei Igawa - 2007 (5 yr 20M plus 26M paid for negotiating rights)
There isn't even any point talking about what happened with him.

Kyle Farnsworth - 2006 (3 yr 17M)
Another pitcher coming straight off one good season with Atlanta, and gets about 5.5M a year with us. I remember more about his fights with Posada and stuff like that opposed to what he did on the mound.

Alex Rodriguez - 2008 (10 yr 275M)
Sorry but he does not deserve anywhere near that much money, and Jeter can thank him for only getting a 3 year deal this offseason.

Jorge Posada - 2008 (4 yr 52.5M)
Had a career year in 2007, then in 2008 only plays 51 games. In 2009-10 just about every team runs on him, now it appears he is done as a full time catcher. I had nothing against re-signing him, but not for 13.1M a year.

Randy Johnson - 2005 (3 yr 45M)
He was a trade, not free agent but he was given a 2 year extension. The Yankees used to like to give a lot of money to pitchers over the age of 40.

A.J. Burnett - 2009 (5 yr 82.5M)
I heard he has like the 3rd highest deal of all time for a pitcher, at least until Cliff Lee signs somewhere.

Javier Vazquez - 2010 (1 yr 11.5M)
He was a trade and luckily no contract extension. The Yankees must have forgotten what happened with him in 2004. Also he was coming off 1 good year with the Braves, the Yankees need to stay away from Braves pitchers.

Granderson is done so is Sizuki with you guys, Grandy probably is headed back to Detroit after we dump Bosch

Also to answer someones question from earlier yesterday was the first time your team has been swept in the playoffs since 1922

CC's current deal is a 5-year/$122 million deal that lasts through 2016. He opted out of his prior deal after last season and his new deal added a year and $30 million to his contract. He also has a $25 million option in 2017 that becomes guaranteed if he does not end the 2016 season on the disabled list because of a left shoulder injury, does not spend more than 45 days of 2016 on the DL with a left shoulder injury or does not make six or more relief appearances in 2016 because of shoulder issues.

honestly, i think Arod should have been playing that game...along with Curt....

Put out the most talented lineup in an elimination game and see what happens...its not like Chavez has been doing anything either. all it takes is 1 at bat to catch fire but its too late now...

yea, but the only reason ARod is even being talked about being traded is becuase of his playoff performance...not regular season...

[QUOTE=walruswarrior;6628424
The starting rotation is fairly solid. Throw out this last game and I don't think a starter gave up more than 3 earned runs. That's pretty good and a solid foundation to build on next year. The lineup needs an overhaul. I'm still pissed at Cashman for trading Montero for Pineda. He was made for the short porch .[/QUOTE]

yea i was upset to see Montero get traded too....but what happened to our other catching prospect who is supposedly an amazing fielder, not anywhere as good at hitting???forget his name

Similar stat from ESPN's Darren Rovell:

Quote:
Yankees total payroll 1996-2000: $393.3 Million, 4 titles. Yankees total payroll 2001-2012: $2.17 Billion, 1 title.
