The point is not that the Yankees have given out massive contracts, but that other teams have also given out albatross salaries. Don't throw stones in a glass house type of thing. I'm ok with the money they spend. It's all the other teams who have tightwad owners that seem to get up in arms about it. Ask any Rays fan if they wished Steinberg would pour a little more funding into the team so they could field a somewhat decent lineup.

See thats the problem, most teams dont have that type of cash flow like the Yankees do, to most its not fair some tams can spend more then others (But more power to them, and there fans should appreciate they do as I'd be pissed if my team was sitting on a shit load of money)... Thats why so many are against the Yanks, its just funny to see them fall hard after all the money they spend

I full agree. Unless they change the rules, you can't blame them for doing what they can within the rules. I'm far from a Yankees fan and was cheering for Detroit

I liked the part of the celebration where Leyland told the fans not to drink and drive, then said "especially me." Guess he was referring to his own DUI. And when he said that I swear he sounded drunk.

Hope the Giants can win tonight and get this back to SF... Not very many know this, but Giants have won Zito's last 12 starts

Baseball needs a min and max cap, the problem with the Yankees is the market and structure of where they are. Noone can compete with that in MLB. A team like the Royals cant match the revenue the YES network brings in even before the parking and concession and souvenir revenues are added in.

Last time I had heard the math was something like this

Player costs -200 million / season
Stadium costs -100 million / Season

Yes network revenue +500 million /season

The Yankees clear 200 million dollars without playing a single game. They probably clear something like an additional 7-800 million off the stadium because they own it free and clear. Not including if they make it to the postseason.

The Yankees are a product of there location not talent or history.

The Hardcap for Baseball to be competitive needs to be 100 million no team should be able to spend more then that on a season, the low cap should be 65 million to prevent low market teams from low balling the game and not spending at all.

This would fix 90% of all issues with MLB and help bring down ticket costs in the long run.

Multiple 70's divisional champs, Pittsburgh and KC (along with most others), haven't a hope of signing a lineup comparable to the pin-stripers. The Yanks could sell NO tickets and still make a massive profit. Having said that, if I were a Yanks fan and the ballclub didn't take full advantage of their wealth.....I'D BE PISSED.

It's too late for 100 million hard cap with the salaries of today. It would need to be 125 at least.

Its funny to point to some of the their contracts, but a good percent of them at the time seem like logical moves I mean even Clemens the guy had under a 3 era and I believe even like a 1.6 or 1.9! I'd have given him a shot even at that extreme salary.

The Arod resign was the biggest gaffe of all as he would be someone else's problem right now.

Cards have left 4 on thru 2 but keep in mind how many the Giants LOB in game 3 and lost. The bullpen needs to stay ready and busy ALL night. Don't forget what they did to the Reds. There is NO quit in this ballclub. GO GIANTS.

I agree with most of what you say. Just not this. If we're talking location/market what's the Mets excuse?

The Mets were near or at the top for years. It was only after many of their acquisitions turned into 3rd and 4th place teams that they cut back. Not to mention the entire Madoff scam stealing a ton of the owners' money.

I was looking around at all-time franchise records and came across this. Franchises with the most Hall of Famers. Here are the top 16 teams, founded in 1901 or earlier before the expansion era. These numbers do include HOF'ers from all cities the franchises played in. The Twins were the Washington Senators from 1901-1960. I was a little surprised the Yankees were that low and the Giants easily #1. Not a lot of correlation between HOF'ers and championships won as the teams at #4, 5 and 8 on this list have the most championships.

1. Giants - 55
2. Dodgers - 46
3. Braves - 45
4. Yankees - 44
5. Cardinals - 42
6. Cubs - 41
7. Pirates - 38
8. Athletics - 36
9. Red Sox - 34
10. Reds - 34
11. Phillies - 32
12. Indians - 31
13. Orioles - 28
14. White Sox - 27
15. Twins - 23
16. Tigers - 21
