Yes baby! We need to make some good moves this offseason. We had a very good first half of the season last year but tanked after the allstar break. Great job Dickey! Got Em!!

Would have had a better argument had he said I wanted to pocket the 60 million id be getting from TV revenues. Seriously if this guy was half intelligent hed already have had Hamilton and a few other players in for visits but far as I know noone is visiting Miami. The voters in Miami Dade county got screwed by this guy the same way the city of Montreal did when this guy screwed them and moved the team down.

This decision makes me believe more that Cabrera will win MVP.

Because "new school stats" say Verlander was better, no question.

Wins and ERA are the "old school" thinking.

Specifically, Verlander had a significantly better WAR, which is the primary stat people point to to say Trout > Cabrera.

Believe it or not the vote actually came down to a Detroit writer who voted for Price. Which i actually cant argue Price was better this year. Verlander at times was horrid to watch and this year I don't disagree with the outcome.

heres an excerpt from the article

Quote:
Those in Metro Detroit, though, are more interested in how their local writers voted. And in that case, one, The Detroit News' Lynn Henning, voted for Verlander. But the other, Fox Sports' Jon Paul Morosi, after long deliberation, decided to go with Price.

Red Sox GM Ben Cherington said they are going to have one of the higher payrolls in the league in 2013. Right now they only have $45 million in guaranteed salaries, so if they are truly going to have one of the highest payrolls that likely means they'll need to spend around $100 million on free agents, trades, and arbitration-eligible players. Cherington said he's talked with the agents of virtually every prominent player, including Josh Hamilton.

No doubt Cabrera will win the AL MVP....the guy won the Triple Crown which hasn't been accomplished since 1967.
As a rookie Trout was phenomenal but I think Miggy will edge him out.

My point exactly....Miami is going to be in the basement with Stanton as their lone offensive threat and they have zero pitching. I really doubt the Miami fans will pile in just to see their fancy ball park....fans want to see their team succeed, that's what it's about.

They may have one of the best ball parks but there will probably be a whole lot of empty seats.....I would really like to know why Loria would impose a fire sale like this a year after spending millions to build a contender.....i would have waited another year and hope for a bounce back season...seems he's a little trigger happy and by all regards a poor manager.

Well at least Miami has the Heat to cheer for.

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig examining Marlins trade, which remains unofficial

Quote:
In addition to five Marlins players, Selig said, there is money going from Miami to Toronto, but he did not offer any details and said the trade hadn’t been officially presented to his office yet.

“I’ve talked to two baseball people … who have, actually, an interesting view on the trade,” Selig said. “They think that (Miami), in terms of young players, did very well.”

Sounds like they're just blowing smoke. There's no way they're spending that kind of money. If they somehow do it probably means they badly overpaid on a lot of free agents.

I really don't think wins is even a major factor anymore. Felix Hernandez won a Cy Young with a 13-12 record a few years ago. ERA is by far the most important stat for overs, as I think it should be.

Glad Cabrera won MVP too. Trout was great bur Cabrera was even better.

Selig may end up Vetoing the trade which lets be honest MLB needs to step in and stop a trade that totally unloads a team for no reason after getting a new ballpark.
