I don't see this trade making the Jays a threat for the same reason I didn't feel that last year's Boston/LA trade made LA better.

I'm still pissed about THAT trade because LA bailed Boston out of its own stupidity. I don't feel that way about this trade, but I still don't see the Jays suddenly becoming a threat to win it all based on acquiring a bunch of guys who couldn't do much in Miami last year.

They do realize they're getting the .260'ish avg with little power Melky, don't they? The juiced version of Melky is worth $8 mill per, but not the clean Melky.

You don't put all those FA together and expect them to gel the first year. It takes years for teams with an established core to become anything viable. At that point you add or remove 1-2 things from that core but you dont just jettison 75% of it or put 75% of it together in 1 year and expect results.

This is Baseball, it's batter vs pitcher. Unlike Football, Hockey or Basketball where you have to pass the ball/puck, you can't blame chemistry in Baseball.

Sure you can. Baseball players aren't robots. You do know they interact with each another, right? There are other factors in play than just numbers. These guys are together for at least 162 games per season. The Marlins ownership gave up and started giving away integral parts within a matter of months after assembling them.

My point was, if a batter doesn't like his teammate who is on the 2nd base, he will still try to hit the baseball as far as he can, whereas in hockey, if a centerman doesn't like one of his winger, he's just going to shoot the puck on net instead of passing it. I just think it's much easier to win in Baseball without chemistry than other sports since you just need to put the ball in play selfishly every time you're at bat.

You can't like everyone, but when you do in other sports, you get terrific results (see 2007 Anaheim Mighty Ducks).

I just feel like you can't win in hockey and football without chemistry.

What's the difference between the QB throwing it to a receiver and a pitcher throwing it to a catcher or shortstop throwing it to the second baseman?

Neither the catcher or second baseman will be running a route, nor being "defended".

The QB/Receiver is a matter of trusting that the receiver will be where they should be, and that they can beat their defender to catch the ball.

No Major Leaguer worth having isn't going to be where they should be.

Have you ever seen a double play turned? You are almost always throwing to where the defender isn't, and they do have a runner barreling in on them.

I think it's a dumb deal. I don't think a player should be rewarded also for cheating the game like that. It should be something of an automatic contract considering no one knows what they will be getting. But hey.....it's their money.

Dodgers the favorites to sign Greinke

Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald was told by an "industry insider" that the Dodgers are the favorites to sign Zack Greinke.

He lists the Angels and Rangers as "on the outside looking in." CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported earlier this month that the Dodgers had Hiroki Kuroda and Anibal Sanchez at the top of their pitching wish list, but perhaps that's not the case. Greinke is reportedly looking for a six-year, $150 million contract in free agency, and at this point it's hard to doubt that the Dodgers would be willing to give it to him.

Marlins and Jays Trade approved by MLB

Blue Jays acquired SS Jose Reyes, RHP Josh Johnson, LHP Mark Buehrle, INF-OF Emilio Bonifacio, C John Buck and cash considerations from the Marlins in exchange for SS Yunel Escobar, SS Adeiny Hechavarria, RHP Henderson Alvarez, C Jeff Mathis, OF Jake Marisnick, LHP Justin Nicolino and RHP Anthony DeSclafani.

And another Marlins' salary dump is finally official. MLB commissioner Bud Selig took nearly a week to approve the deal but ultimately came to the conclusion that it "does not violate any express [MLB] rule." He did, however, say he would "continue to monitor this situation with the expectation that the Marlins will take into account the sentiments of their fans." The deal, along with the signing of Melky Cabrera, makes the Blue Jays players in the AL East.
