Baseball is a sport where you almost always pay for what guys have done. But I still don't think the Angels have a horrible deal with Pujols. But we won't know until at least 5 or 6 years down the road.

yeah but if im correct then there is an out clause in his contract where the money isnt guaranteed same with the deal Prince signed last year.

Paying for what guys have done is what's wrong with the sport. It's what results in people at the tail end of their careers destroying a team for a couple years while they have no choice but to sit out dreadfully bad contracts.

Reporters have said the opposite, there are no out-clauses at all. It's even got an incentive clause to pay him more if he's an Angel for 10 years AND a no trade clause, to guarantee Pujols can jack with the Angels as much as he wants to.

Leaving money on the table will certainly be much harder to avoid doing now that he will be living in LA if you catch my drift.

Last year was one the best worst seasons ever. The way he played in the second half was brutal especially in the field.

The Hamilton contract is a good one. If he doesn't have a bad two months at the end of the season, he likely ends up with a contract over $200 million from someone. You can rarely sign a free agent capable of winning multiple MVPs for only five years. He was the fifth or sixth best offensive player in the American League last year, slump included. His WAR is only so low because it didn't really like his defense last year.

Sanchez to Cubs?

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Cubs have agreed to sign free agent right-hander Anibal Sanchez.

Another Hot Stove stunner on this Thursday afternoon. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports hears that the deal could be worth $75 million over five years. It's a pretty shocking destination, as the Cubs are just getting started on a serious rebuilding effort. Sanchez turns 29 in February and owns a 3.75 ERA over seven seasons in the majors.

LOL, I saw that. Love Torii, he has been my favorite player since he signed with the Angels. But he had a great run, and the Angels going to do what they got to do.


Ive always hated the Yankees for what feels like buying World Series.

I wonder what stipulations are included in this deal related to drug use. Surely the Angels didn't make this deal without something along those lines in Hamilton's contract.

Per the MLBPA's rules in their agreement with MLB, those type of clauses are not allowed in a contract. Teams would be putting them in with every single contract if they could do that type of clause. There used to be morals clauses, but that is almost always interpreted as the player going out and committing murder or something of that nature.

Then they could just go the Jerry Jones method and assign Hamilton a babysitter around the clock. It seems silly for a grownup to need such a thing but with high dollar athletes with past problems it's making more and more sense.

CJ Wilson was one of Josh's best friends on the Rangers. The Rangers better trade for a big bat or they are going to finish in third place this year. Overlooked in the wake of Hamilton's second-half collapse was Ian Kinsler, who played almost as bad.
