Mike and Mike said that just like the Pujols deal there are no team outs in the deal.

If Hamilton falls off a cliff, the Angels are stuck with him.

Detroit signed Sanchez 5 years for $75 mill. I can't believe a guy with an ERA consistently just under 4.00 is worth $15 mill per year these days.

According to ESPN it is 5 years for $80 million. It's interesting because multiple sources said yesterday that the Cubs had signed him for 5 years/$75 million. I wonder if his agent leaked that he was going to sign with the Cubs to try and get more money from the Tigers. Given a choice I'm sure he would have preferred to stay with a contender in Detroit rather than the rebuilding Cubs.

As a Cubs fan I'm kind of glad they didn't sign him. The Cubs are not going to be contenders anytime soon and I'd rather they stay away from high-priced long-term deals with fringe players at this point. Those kinds of deals were part of what got the Cubs in their current position in the first place.

I cant believe this either, our rotation looks solid tho perhaps the best in MLB...

JV, Fister, Scherzer, Sanchez thats a very strong 1-4. Chances are Porcello is trade bait now same as Peralta, but Porcello may get moved to the bullpen and be a long middle reliver. Illitch wants to win now so hes going to pay, then again dunno why he just didnt sign Hamilton for that money if he wants to win now.

lol. Only Tampa Bay had a better staff in the second half of last year than the Braves. And once Beachy comes back, Atlanta could be scary good in the arm department.

Quote:
CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Mets are engaged in serious trade discussions regarding ace R.A. Dickey. Furthermore, Heyman and CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler report that the Blue Jays -- backed by their healthy supply of young outfielders and impressive catching depth -- are especially active in their pursuit of Dickey.

A trade involving the reigning NL Cy Young winner could happen very soon.

One possible return package could involve outfielder Anthony Gose and catcher J.P. Arencibia. only would they be sourced from the Jays' organizational strengths, but they would also fill the Mets' organizational needs and provide a mix of youth and upside. There's also the possibility, Heyman reports, that the Blue Jays could give up their top prospect, catcher Travis d'Arnaud. The Mets (and most other teams) have coveted d'Arnaud for some time. The Mets reportedly started their negotiations with d'Arnaud, but the Jays were reluctant to deal him, preferring to deal Arencibia, making room for d'Arnaud in Toronto.

The 38-year-old Dickey last season paced the NL with 233 2/3 innings pitched and ranked second with an ERA of 2.73. Dickey also led the league in strikeouts with 230. In parts of 10 major-league seasons, the knuckleballer owns a career ERA of 3.98.

The Rangers and Orioles, at one point considered in the running for Dickey, appear to be on the outside of the talks.
Please, please let us land him. Please Lord!

I'll hate to see Dickey go, but the Mets need a catcher and outfielders. If they can land Travis d'Arnaud they have to pull the trigger.

As long as he agrees to an extension and passes a physical it's a done deal.

I hope so.

I'd hate to lose D'Arnaud as he's already swinging well at the Triple A level and is due for a promotion to the big league.... plus he's one of the Jays top prospects.

I think the Jays are giving up too much in prospect talent....i understand trying to go all in and win a title but think sensibly in doing so. Jays already have a solid rotation and with Hutchinson as the 5th starter I'd say their pitching looks solid.

I agree they gave up too much. They could have acquired Shields from the Rays for much less.

I wonder how Dickey pitches in the AL East. That division has a lot of experience against knuckleballers from Wakefield pitching such a long time for Boston.

Dickey is a very different animal from Wakefield.

This past season I attended four Blue Jays games. Actually considering buying a 10-game package for 2013, what with all this activity Toronto is undertaking.
