When the ARod trade occurred, ARod was a far better defensive shortstop. The team would have been significantly better off if Jeter was the guy to move to 3rd instead of ARod, but his pride wouldn't let him.

*EDIT* Dare I say it...Jeter is kind of the Tim Tebow of baseball. Has skills, but his pride makes him play a position he's somewhat ill-suited to playing.

Because every gold glove he won was a travesty. He has no range. Never really did either.

It's pretty well known that Jeter is just about the worst defensive shortstop in MLB history. He's certainly accumulated more negative defensive runs there than any other SS in history, because most SS which field like him are moved to 2B or 3B before they could accumulate the amount of innings he's played. He is still valuable because of his offense at the position.

That whole Yankee team is disfunctional across the defensive spectrum. A-Rod would have been moved to 1B a couple of years ago if not for Tex being there.

I've always liked Jeter as a player even if I hated the Yankees. He's come up big time and time again throughout his career. That being said he is awful defensively. His entire reputation as a great defensive player seems to stem from a few great postseason plays he's made in his career. But overall he's the most overrated defensive player in MLB history. Those Gold Gloves were always a bad joke.

All kidding aside Sycro if you still want to come to Detroit for the Braves vs Tigers tickets go on sale March 2 not sure if im going to the Saturday or Sunday game it will all be based on which day Verlander is pitching. Which as of right now he may not be facing them a 5 day rotation puts him facing the Royals on either the 24th or 25th which unfortunately he misses the Braves if that's the case.

On the right side alone, Cano and Teixeira have a combined 7 Gold Gloves, they are no good either?

Tex is a good defender for his position, but 1B contributes less on defense than any position on the field. Cano has a very strong arm and turns the double play very well, but his fielding numbers are all over the map. The only truly elite defensive player on the Yankees at the moment in their prime is Brett Gardner. He's really a CF playing LF. Ichiro used to be an elite defensive player, but it's hard to say at his age he hasn't lost a couple of steps.

Has Granderson fallen off that much? The guy was Beast Mode here in CF in Det.

He's like David Wright. A few years ago, Chipper Jones had a great year defensively (surprising giving how rough things were most of the end of his career), but David Wright won the Gold Glove because he makes the flashier plays near the walls.

It's entirely possible plans change though But I'd likely have to fly out to make it work, and that becomes a bit more expensive than taking a couple days off and driving.

Granderson has never really rated that well as a CF and has gotten worse as he has lost some range. He makes some of the oddest reads in baseball and occasionally looks lost out there. Austin Jackson is a much better defensive CF than Granderson ever was.
