Hah, Angels better be paying the bulk of that salary because Wells is one of the most overpaid players in MLB. He's due $21 mill each of the next two seasons. Last two years he's been terrible with around a .220 avg and declining power.

I guess paying A-Rod all that money to sit on the bench wasn't good enough. So they want to get another overpaid player.

I'd imagine the Angels are gonna eat a bulk of the money. Which they probably aren't gonna think twice about doing. Trading for Wells in the first place was a dumb idea. Toronto was smart to let him go when they did.

Supposedly the Yankees only have to pay a total of $13 million to Wells for 2013 and 2014 with the Angels paying the rest. I guess it's not too bad of a deal for NY at $6.5 mill a year out of pocket. Angels are just trying to pawn the guy off for whatever salary some other team is willing to pay.

Only if he turns it around. There are lots of guys that can hit .240 that you can get for nothing (like Andruw Jones).

If this guy hits .240 it'll be a big improvement. He hit .222 in two years for the Angels. Toronto unloaded this guy just in time a few years ago.

Agreed. They could of kept Ibanez for 2.75 million. And Ibanez was putting up pretty good numbers in pinstripes. I think they made the move because they don't feel confidante in Brennan Boesch as an everyday outfielder. Which I don't blame them. Boesch goes through so many lulls and has yet to be consistent for a whole season. But with Wells he is so passed his prime. All you really get is a bit of a defensive upgrade with Boesch with the same power output.

I would of kept Ibanez and Jones around over Wells.

What are you on? He was absolutely abysmal last year. I can get on board with Ibanez but Jones I can't. We just need a body until Grandy Man comes back. Gonna be a rough start to the season. Pitching Staff and Cano are going to need to carry this team.

I agree on Andruw Jones. The guy hit .197. He only makes MLB rosters these days because some people still think he'll recapture the HOF talent he once possessed in Atlanta. It's never going to happen.

Now that I think of it has anyone heard anything about Andruw? I know he beat up his wife X-Mas morning last year and was arrested. Heard nothing since.

He signed a 3.5 million deal to play in Japan.

I recall hearing that but the signing happened just before the spousal abuse incident. Is the Japanese team really keeping him on? Stuff like that can cause a person to have their VISA revoked. And Japanese teams typically don't tolerate headcases.

He can still provide you good pop at the plate and could be a good pinch-hitter off the bench. I can see why the Yankees didn't sign him, but if they could of gotten him for a million dollars or so it would of been a better add then Wells.

Why they didn't keep Ibanez is beyond me.
