Schafer isn't too surprising really. He's out of options. While his bat hasn't been very good since his hand injury in like his 3rd major league game, he's a great defensive guy. So on days where you want to rest somebody, he could keep the D high or be a late inning replacement for someone.

Always nice to see when a good GM and MGR is rewarded after doing a good job. Sadly tho far to often the MGR is made the scapegoat when shit goes wrong after a bad GM puts together a horrible team.

Immensely happy! Verlander has been my favorite player since 2006. He's done nothing but anchor the staff and been the games best pitcher. Glad he will be a tiger for life.

Giants are crazy. There was no reason for them to lock him up right now.... he's under their 100% control for 3 more years. Now, if he falls apart in the next 4-5 years, they're stuck with him and his contract.

I think its a great deal! the Yanks/Red Sox/Dodgers would have probably offered him way more money too...

Not denying what he's done, and of course you don't let him get to FA.... but the Yankees/Red Sox/Dodgers couldn't touch him until 2016....
