If you check the trialer of Fire and Ice on Youtube it's freakishly well rotoscoped, it's almost weird to watch...

It was the third in Ralph Bakshi's "Fantasy-geek" trilogy (so, did "Wizards" come out before Elfquest, or vice versa?

), and his rotoscoping-experiment followup after the LOTR Animated sequel was cancelled.

(Similarities end there, though: The moving-Frazetta designs look nice, but it's 70 minutes of pulp-fantasy cliche' strung together without a plot.)

Thanks. I didn't know the guy. Never saw the animated LOTR. I like the Don Bluth animation from the 80's like the Nihm Story (witch is HORRIBLE on DVD, from MGM i think) and The Rainforest movie (Ferngully i think)

I have Fire and Ice on DVD.

The "extra features" IMO are more interesting than the film itself. The story is very weak.

ALSO, don't be fooled by the incredible cover art, the actual cartoon work in the film is very poor. I found the rotoscoping in the Bakshi version of The Lord of the Rings to be much better.

For those liking the cartoon babe on the cover (as I did), she does not look like that in the film, she looks like a character from a poorly drawn kiddy cartoon.

Blue Underground did an excellent job restoring old films for SD DVD releases, lets hope they do just as good a job for the blu-rays
