Default Fast Company Blue-Underground 5/19/09

Blue Underground released the sort of un David Cronenberg like film FAST COMPANY on blu-ray this week.

I can't say I liked the film much, it isn't bad by any means but if you like drag racing and a seeking
a some nostalgia of the time it is cool to watch. I am sure the film has a cult following. It certainly
has it moments. I know this isn't the type of film many expect from David Cronenberg, but he has
a fascination with motorcycles so I can see how he was interested in a drag race film. In the audio commentary he does state he did do some race car driving, so he did like the subject matter.

I will say this is the type of cult film that usually goes out of print fetches high prices and I bet 10
years from now it will be out of print. I could be wrong but one never knows. Just my feeling. So if
you like collecting Cronenberg don't hesitate to pick it up. I may not have enjoyed the film greatly
but I am holding onto my copy.

I can only hope RABID gets a release this good on Blu-Ray one day. It would be cool to see RABID
look as good as FAST COMPANY looks.

The transfer is top notch there are a few shots that suffer from not looking so great but this is due
to the film and or locations. It has film grain colors are wonderfully saturated and no sign of DNR,
although one shot I think I noticed some edge enhancement, but it was one shot and it is nothing
to write home about at all. I am giving the image a solid 5 since you can't possibly get any greater
detail with the film print and it looks just as it should.

I can't imagine this film looking any better, and the image creates a film like experience that I
doubt could be topped for FAST COMPANY. I viewed the film using the DTS 7.1 Master Audio track
and dialog was clear, the songs strong and same for the roar of the car engines etc.

I think Blue-Underground does great work with their Blu-Ray releases so far - they don't seem to
tamper too much with the transfers in bad ways. The only drawback is the lack of original audio
tracks included on their releases. Hopefully in the future it could change.

Lets be honest, If were talking about David Cronenberg films, we need to talk about Dead Ringers. Pure perfection. Theres also Naked Lunch, and Videodrome. Lets not forget Scanners, which is his second best film.

I cant believe I almost forgot about The Fly.

The FLY is already out on BLU.

I was talking about Fast Company since it was just released this week. I don't think it will sell much at all. the Blu Ray does contain a commentary track from Cronenberg and some of his early short films.

Naked Lunch would be great on BD as would any Cronenberg film.

it may not sell much....but thanks to your original post, i'm definitely going to pick myself up a copy...

for whatever reason, a lot of the independent studios' releases fly under my radar and i end up losing track of what is out/coming soon

I know what you mean titles like these are really hard to find in the stores but I think amazon.com's price is around 20.99 for it right now it retails for 34.99.

I am gonna pick up Circle of Iron today - it was released by Blue-Underground also this past Tuesday.

I started listening to Cronenberg's commentary last nite and it sounds good, he always has a lot of information to relay on the making of his films.

I forgot to mention in my original post that I am fascinated by classic John Saxon films and his role is good in Fast Company.

well i live in Canada, so i guess i'll have to live with the $27.99 retail price on amazon.ca....the exchange rate kills any chance of an amazon.com deal

i'm glad to hear of the commentary track being included....that's the only special feature i end up looking into anyway

+ i don't mind paying a bit more for blue underground's releases anyway...they are like the criterion of cult movies

Un-Cronenberg is a perfect description for Fast Company. Certainly not my fave DC film, and one I won't be picking up.

Hopefully Criterion re-releases Videodrome soon on blu-ray.

Was hoping this bump was for some 4K news. But alas no, just disappointment.
