Excellent. Enjoy the HP movies, this will also have me buying a DV player to check them out, curious to see how they will look on the LG C6 which isn't a 12 bit panel but supports DV nonetheless.

I passed the info from the article to FlatpanelsHD and they are going to inquire with Warner about it. In his own words "I'm skeptical that Warner would confirm this without Dolbys consent".

I'll wait for an announcement from Warner first. It would be weird to release it in Dolby Vision but in dtsX and not Dolby Atmos.

There are other sources:

http://surround-sound.info/news/pott...im-o-ton-8708/

I guess from the same original news source

does seem strange to not have Dolby Atmos, but then studios can do what they want can't they. Also it makes sense if the German Discs have DTS MA 5.1 "Core".

DTS: X, at least in its consumer form, is not as complex as Dolby Atmos. It's not as capable either. It's possible Warner Home Video is only doing "light" 7.1.4 remixes of the films (perfect for DTS: X) rather than bothering to translate many (or any) of the sound elements into 3D steerable objects as needed for a scalable Dolby Atmos implementation (good for 5.1.2 up to 24.1.10 and maybe more).

It all comes down to how much money and how much time they were willing to spend on each film in the series.

But it is good to see that they will have Dolby Vision grading (hopefully, in 12 bit).

Agreed, it'd be a strange turn of events if their first DV titles were also their first UHDs with immersive audio to not feature Atmos. Something smells a bit fishy here.

Then again, perhaps the Freakosaurus is onto something: if they are indeed "native" 4K builds as claimed in the article then Warners might've blown their remastering budget on that, hence them cheaping out with DTS:X mixes rather than Atmos.

That's a Dolby Cinema thing.

What is? Putting both together is not allowed on home media or something? Pffft.

Applying Dolby Vision on Home Media doesn't require Dolby Atmos sound.

I didn't say it was a requirement. I remarked that it was odd that Warners' first titles to apparently feature Dolby Vision will also be their first UHD titles with immersive audio that isn't an Atmos track, which has been a mainstay of Warners' usage of immersive audio thus far. It just seems like a strange time to ditch Atmos when the synergy of having DV + DA together on one disc would be a wet dream for Dolby fanboys.

Never mind what I said, I should have read, BenQ's quote twice.

But yeah, I agree it's an odd choice.

Amazon also updated the front covers, with new HDR labels.

Great news!

I was planning on buying these titles anyway but the Dolby Vision is a huge plus.

Hopefully Oppo will have the Dolby Vision firmware update available before these come out.

for the most part all the WB titles on Vudu have Vision and Atmos, guess this will be the change of the norm here.

More troublesome is that if they really will have DOLBY Vision, I don't think that will be using that on the cover. I would expect it to clearly advertise Dolby Vision or use a DOLBY vision TM symbol.

I have the Oppo player, bought it a couple of weeks ago. In the HDR settings in Video Output Setup, there is a new option called "Strip Metadata" which isn't in the manual when I tried to find out what exactly it was. Since Dolby Vision has metadata to sync exactly to the tv's settings, could this be the Dolby Vision setting?

NO its a setting to strip the HDR10 (and presumably dolby vision) HDR info. It tries and leave the other info (wide dynamic range etc) for a better picture on TV's that don't support HDR. It is listed in the OPPO update notes as Experimental.

You know, I'm starting to get a bit unsure about whether these discs have DV at all.
