I totally understand where you are coming from and just want to share how I deal with this. I refuse to spend my money in theaters for anything I don't expect to be incredible or a comic book movie anymore. That way, Hardy would be a complete unknown if it weren't for TDKR, which claims he's in it (must've been an extra there.) Hemsworth? Apparently, Thor uses that identity IRL and not Blake. CumberKahn? More like Dr. CumberKahn, but that's okay with me, cuz I can use my imagination while watching these movies and remain blissfully ignorant.

I think that Benedict Cumberbatch is a good actor and I am sure he will make a fine Doctor Strange but he is not who I picture in my mind when I think of a live-action Doctor Strange.

This version of Doctor Strange will be, to me, something like Christopher Nolan's and Christian Bale's version of Batman. It's a fine Batman but not the version I picture in my mind when I think of Batman.

I feel like that about at least one role in all of these films, but if a mainstream actor had to get the role, they still made a great choice. In this case, his performance may well make up for his lack of appearances.

I would have been more skeptical of McGregor or Phoenix.

Is it his acting style or his looks that make you feel that way? He obviously had a ton of support, but I couldn't see him in this role. I think his appearance is what throws me off.

BC's look is closer for me maybe, but his presence and voice win me over.

He's a great actor, and he can change his look for the role. But really, it's that he's an amazing actor and he will kill in the role.

Sorry, I meant about Ewan McGregor, what wins his vote? There's a lot who felt he was the best choice. I agree easily as far as BC though.

I should say I have limited exposure to him. The prequel trilogy of course and maybe a few minutes of him in other roles. I wanted him for Obi Wan based on looks alone, though I knew he was recognized as a great actor.

I've seen him in exactly two things, Sherlock and Into Darkness.

Bloody hell, do you have to piss in everyone's cereal?

He's a good actor, and I'd be really interested in him taking the role, the character needs an assured screen presence to go along with all the weirdness and I think he'll be able to pull it off.

Ben Cumberbatch looks like an alien from another world so I guess that's why they picked him to play Dr. Strange? (Note: I know nothing about Dr. Strange.)

He wasn't chosen because he fits the role...he was chosen because he's Benedict Cumberwhatever and he's the big name of the moment.
