So we can all agree the Dolby Vision is the definitive version of the movie.

Well, it seems to be much better than the HDR10 version on the UHD disc.

But still the standard BD is a nearly perfect replica of the theatrical experience (HDR wasn't a thing in 2013). The only thing UHD improves is color gamut

Yeah I know. I have seen the Mad Max sun pics and noticed it myself in a few cloud comparisons and the lightning bolts at the end of Suicide Squad. I get it, it just doesn't really blow up my skirt too much. I'm not knocking it, it just doesn't rev my motor. Let's see how many more euphemisms I can make!

I've tried to make it exxxxxxxxxtremely clear these are my preferences and not objective statements though. For me the resolution bump is a much bigger deal, and the titles that have really sold UHD to me are the ones that show the most added detail and "tightness" (Revenant, X-Men: Apoc, Magnificent 7). For others HDR seems to be a much bigger deal, and that's fine. I just gotta be me, baby!

Yeah it didn't really get great reviews, that's why it's funny. Though it is a great TV in a lot of ways, and a big improvement on my last "stop-gap" TV. It's just not a great UHD TV.

It's certainly seems better than the 2015 version of the same TV, that I've just junked, (three replacement screens and each one with issues), but dropping an HDMI and USB port and gaining a VA panel.

I'm debating on just sucking it up and buying an OLED. I don't want to have to buy another set for a very long time after this.

Yeah, OLED seems to be the way forward, and I am gonna buy a 4K TV, preferably with Dolby Vision, but will the 2017 OLED's have 12 bit screens to show DV at its best?

Sorry if I have derailed this thread somewhat.

My thought process keeping this one is that I can get an OLED with Dolby Vision for a lot less in a couple years. This one makes BDs look great, which is more than acceptable for a couple more years.

Ordered this for £13.49 from Amazon, they seem to be price matching Zoom.

Held off on getting this as heard it was soft, but Geoff's comments gave me hope. As it's Amazon will return if I feel it's worse than the Blu-Ray.

One of my favourite Blu-rays so hoping it looks good.

Here's where it gets a little more interesting. I decided to play around with the sharpness controls on my UHD player, see what would happen, and I managed to get the UHD to a point where it brings back a sense of the Blu-ray's clinical crispness. The detail on the UHD can't be restored to the same level because it's simply not there to begin with, and yet because it's so soft it can endure being sharpened back up again without adding a load of artefacts.

If anyone's got a Panasonic player then go into the settings during playback and turn both the mid and high frequency Luma sharpness to +6. You may then notice heavy ringing along the edges of the letterbox bars, but put Edge Correction to +1 and the ringing disappears. See what you think!

And yes, I know: turning the sharpness UP is an anathema to any serious home theater enthusiast, but in this case the movie has been filtered quite significantly so I thought I'd give it a go.
So which one do you like better ? The BD because it's sharper or the UHD with HDR and better colors ?

It's a tough one because the extra range and colour of the UHD is gorgeous but the Blu has loads more detail. BUT with the 'fix' I can return some of that sense of sharpness to the UHD, so I'll be sticking with that one.

Hah! I'm in a better headspace now though because I've accepted what my TV can and can't do with UHD, with my current settings I've got a lot more consistency from title to title than I had before.

The first few minutes of Oblivion looked more detailed on the UHD playing through the Oppo 203, then on the BD playing through either the Oppo 93 or the Oppo 203 (where they look about the same). Going to check out those scenes where Ray posted pics to see if the BD actually looks more detailed. It could be a case where the Samsung player is filtering out some of the detail that's always been there on these UHDs and Oblivion UHD will compare more favorably detail-wise.

I have the Oppo 203 and an LG 55E6 and looking very close the Blu does definitely have more detail than the UHD, but the UHD with the WCG and HDR looks better in terms of colour and range. Glad I have both, but would have been nice to have the UHD without the softer details. Its obvious in quite a few shots comparing both discs one after the other

Screw HDR and color gamut, I require as much Andrea Riseborough detail as possible!
