If anyone's got a Panasonic UHD player then as your attorney I recommend that you sharpen the bejesus out of this disc with the excellent picture adjustment features that the Panny has. The Reality Creation on Sony TVs also works very well, you gotta push it to about 50 or so. OPPO's in-player sharpening is less successful, creating obvious edge halos with just a couple of notches up.

On the Panny push the Luma high-frequency sharpness and Luma mid-freq sharpness all the way to maximum (+6) and Edge Correction to +1 to remove the sharpening halos. Works absolutely brilliantly on Oblivion, try it on practically anything else and it becomes a hot mess but Oblivion has been filtered so heavily that it can stand being whacked so thoroughly with the sharpening stick. (This is of course dependent on where your own TV's sharpness control has been set, if you're overcooking the image already then dis may not work so gud)

I see no edge halos, Oppo 203 into OLED 65 B6. Sharpness set at +5 on the 203. Minor ringing on the black bars(expected), but I noticed no ringing or halos on actual content. And I scrutinized. FWIW.

Didn't you say elsewhere you use cool color temperature? With a projector?

So you think the panny has a better sharpening system?

Im pretty satisfied with the oppos sharpening on 4k disc's. I tried out Oblivion last night for the 1st time in a while and 1st time on my new set. With tweaks on the Oppo the picture looks alot better than it did on my ks9800. It's almost as sharp as the Blu Ray for me now but the hdr is pretty killer.

Does the panny have an input like the Oppo?

I've already made it plain that the TV's sharpness is set to where it neither adds nor taketh away, objectively assessed with test patterns, nor do I use the Reality Creation or other sharpness boosting by default (unlike other people, methinks), but Oblivion's UHD is so soft it got me thinking about sharpening it up so I tried the various methods at my disposal (did this a while ago too with the Panny, I'm just mentioning it again as I picked up a UB390 for cheap).

The door swings both ways as I use the Panny's processing to actually de-sharpen the Fifth Elephant UHD for example, along with other BDs that have been smacked badly with edge enhancement where the high/mid frequency filters can reduce the visible halos.

The OPPO's sharpening is far too blunt a tool, to use a contrary simile. Just off the top of my head Cruise gets obvious halos around him in the wide shot when he's sitting on the mountain watching the sea water machines in the distance, and it also puts some blatant ringing along the letterbox bars whereas the Panny's Edge Correction cancels out the ringing. As always, some people are more sensitive to certain things than others so I don't expect everyone to see what I see, like with Deadpool 2's theatrical UHD disc having been softened slightly. And yet it's there alright...

Damn!!! That's a steal. Where are you all finding these deals? I seriously got ripped off big time on my tv. To be honest, though, It's my fault. Extenuating circumstances did play a role, but in the end, I can only blame myself.

I don’t look for deals, I negotiate for them. Every single Best Buy store in the Chicagoland area is willing to lower the price to get a sale. ABT is another great location willing to negotiate. If anyone’s curious, dealer’s cost on the 65” C8 is $2461.

Only bought mine for the cover, but have your old Panafonics settings in for BD, will make a setting for this disc then.

I paid $1,800 CDN for my 65” B7, that’s $1,350 USD.

I'm paying twice, even triple possibly, what my tv would actually sell for.

But then when you compare that picture to the 1080p picture going through a Darbee it looks soft again

Sharpened soft UHD vs sharpened sharp BD. Yes, that figures. Don't have any love for that Darbeeness as I don't like sharpening for the sake of it, but in this one instance a UHD Darbee version would come in handy.

Darbees are worthless for panels. Useful for projectors.
