I don't think HDR saves this UHD BD, it lacks detail, its looks soft, it's just plain bad.
How or why did Universal made it bad I don't know. I think 2K upscales has the potential to look outstanding and I was expecting Oblivion on UHD BD to be demo material, just like Prometheus, Alien Covenant, Star Trek Into Darkness or Sicario 2 which are all 2K upscales and look outstanding.

This differing information is like Fox News versus CNN. I think I'll try and compare this a bit before I watch something once I get off the forum. It could be the Vudu stream isn't filtered like the UHD but because of typical streaming filtering and compression it looks like it might as well be? I recently did an experiment with another movie and found the stream much more "blurry" for lack of a better word.

I have compared many titles on Apple TV vs uhd. It definitely varies by title but most of the time the uhd comes out on top. In my opinion oblivion did not. Check it out if you can and see what you think.

I'll agree here. It's disappointing that it's been smoothed compared to the blu-ray, but the HDR makes up in spades for that. Here's just a prime example that the good outweighs the bad.

Audio quality is just a further additional bonus, too.

Ok. I do stand corrected. The DV version on iTunes has the filtering and smoothed over look as well after more comparisons. I still believe the DV version is better than the uhd version but the blu Ray is much sharper than either of the hdr versions.

I'm not being an apologist like you *could* argue over T2... in saying that I prefer the UHD ten times over. I'm sort of flabbergasted at the claims of this is being "bad". However, I guess for this one, time and improvement on my signal chain could bear out my feelings in line with others.

That's the part that sucks to look forward to, though. As I thoroughly get blown away by current viewings.

I mean it looks great in every way except having less detail than the BD. So it just comes down to whether those benefits outweigh seeing less detail. Depends on the person.

DV on VuDu? What's next, movies on Netflix trump blurays?

The weave in the seatbelt are blurred? Are you kidding me?
Things in the real world are blur oftentimes, just look around. Not everything is supposed to be super sharp depending on angle, distance...Hell even depending on the time of the day, location, and cloudiness

exactly, a 'natural' looking image is not supposed not be 100% sharp all the time. I am looking around my office and not everything looks sharp and defined.
The UHD is more accurate and realistic.

We’ve been over this. You see blurry everything in real life. Your vision is poor, admittedly.
Ours isn’t. The disc is so blurry compared to the BD, it should’ve been scrapped and redone. Instead, some dumbass actually sent it to the presses.
