The BD release from 2007 was based on an older master that was effectively 960x1080. The same issue occurred on The Fugitive (released in 2006) and the first release of Full Metal Jacket (also released in 2006). The latter had a new version released in 2007. No word yet AFAIK about a new BD of The Fugitive.

The current transfer is sourced from a 1080i master deinterlaced into 1080P. It's littered with jaggies. The colour timing isn't particularly great either. The audio is only a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track and it only includes the extended edition of the film with the horrid Bruce Lee overdub.

Warner are doing the right thing by remastering the film, it definitely needs the treatment. I hope they include the theatrical cut as well through seamless branching and the original mono mix as the 5.1 mix was quite heavily altered in places.

Apparently Cliff from Scream Factory wanted to release it but Universal told them no because they are releasing it themselves. I would rather Shout release it, but any release is great news!

I'm both happy and fearful right now; happy because Dragon might FINALLY get a 16:9 release, and fearful because, well, it's Universal. Even if Shout had gotten it Universal would've still provided the video elements, and as a low-level catalogue title that means varying amounts of DNR, EE, contrast boosting, colour boosting etc. Everything that makes Universal so great.

Yes, great. I really doubt it's a mistprint. I see no reason why they couldn't use lossless audio on this edition.

I'm sure it's legit. I always like to hear from a first hand account, before getting my hopes up.
I see no reason why studios shouldn't use lossless on every BD released, but yet here we are.

I know, I've hung on to my SE Laserdisc because the DVD offered such a piss poor upgrade. But as sweet as a remaster would be, coming from Universal it'd be like being given your favourite candy bar covered in shit. There's undoubtedly some goodness there, but it's not as, ah, palatable as it might've otherwise been.

A Warriors Journey is why I'm keeping my 2007 BD of ETD! It could sure use a re-release and remastering.
