IMO it is best to watch all of Star Trek in production order. Otherwise some of the back-references to previous productions will be lost on you (even though missing them shouldn't detract from the show). But if he waits for all of Star Trek to be released on Blu-ray before watching Enterprise, he may never see it.

Thanks! I thought it was mentioned that Deep Space 9 was in consideration, but I could be mistaken.

I think there've been rumors. Not sure if Voyager would ever be taken on (hope it is)...

If you end up following my advice, which, I'm not sure you should... then just be warned -- if you haven't seen TOS before, IMO it can often be quite boring. Sacrilege, I know. So just keep in mind the era it was produced in when watching it and be aware that the more modern Treks picked up the pace as time went on.

Nope. Occasional minor reference aside, they're largely independent shows.

Don't have your introductions to the Mirror Universe and the Borg be through ENTERPRISE. Watch the shows in the order they were released, at minimum TOS and TNG.

Don't worry, I'm already watching TNG. I'll see the first Borg episode in December when season 2 comes out! However, I have seen all of the movies, so I'm not completely new to Star Trek. This is just my first time going through the TV shows.

Then I'd at least watch the TOS episodes "Mirror, Mirror" and "The Tholian Web" before Season Four of ENTERPRISE, as well as "The Pegasus" from TNG. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting, too. ENTERPRISE really has several nods to "what's to come", so I still say you should take it in last.

yes and no. since it is set before the other series, you can watch it and it makes sense but there are references in it that might not make perfect sense if you don't - for example, why there are Borg on Earth (but then again, if you have never seen Trek, you won't know who the Borg are). for modern audiences, Enterprise might be a little easier to start with than the other series since it is a newer show and looks like it.

Ah, "The Way To Eden" episode. If this is what the series had come to in only its 3rd season, I shudder to imagine the storylines of future seasons.

It is only my opinion, but I consider The Animated Series to be Season 4 myself. While the animation is clunky by today's standards it is some really good writing. I remember listening to this when I was cleaning out one of our rooms and marveling at that. I think if you start with Star Trek and then TNG, DS9 ect. you'll appreciate how far some of the story telling came on the shows. Sadly, I think they had run out of ideas by the time Enterprise came along. I actually liked the original premise of it, but unfortunately they wanted to make a topical storyline at the time that the rebooted BSG handled a little bit better. As a long time Trek watcher I got frustrated with being preached at that came with some of the latter shows. Between this and the damn arch's it just got tiring. This is where the classic Star Trek succeeded. I didn't realize as a kid that I was being taught a very important lesson. I just enjoyed the ride. Week to week adventures were great and you could jump on any given day(It was in syndication or repeats/rebroadcast to us old timers).

If you have seen all movies I say go for it.
It's true that there are some things that gain appeal if you know other Trek shows but if you like ENT you will revisit it and maybe then you have seen the other shows.

The most important Trek you should have seen before ENT imo is the movie "First Contact".
Then for the fourth season of ENT the movie "The Wrath of Khan", the TOS episode "Mirror, Mirror" and the TNG episode "The Pegasus" enhance the experience.

No, its best to pretend that the Enterprise episode "These Are the Voyages..." doesn't exist and the finale to Enterprise was "Terra Prime"

Star Trek Enterprise is not one of my favorite Trek shows but I would like to see it released on Blu-Ray along with Deep Space Nine and Voyager. Those 3 series need to be released on Blu-Ray.

this is turning into the Star Wars debate - watch 4,5,6,1,2,3 or 1,2,3,4,5,6 or just 4,5,6 and pretend the rest don't exist

truth is there are good and bad parts to watching it in any order. if you are just starting to get into it hardcode, start with Enterprise and then TOS, TNG, etc. it gives you a feel for how the universe evolved. Plus there are some random references, like Archer IV in "Yesterday's Enterprise" that make better sense now. just don't want Enterprise and decide you don't like Trek because of it - each series is unique. it is sort of like Doctor Who - love the 11th Doctor episodes but couldn't take it seriously when they rebooted it because the guy they hired to play the doctor would go from bad-ass to goof in about .5 seconds.

Yep, I can see where you are coming from Blue and agree. I never watched the original Who's, but have enjoyed the current shows run. In the end, only the OP can decide what order works best for them.

That's not surprising since many of Trek's original writers such as DC Fontana also wrote for the Animated Series.

it would be interesting to see what would happen if they took those old episodes and redid the animation. i bet the series would be very popular. i have seen some "reimagined" pics and it could be very cool.
