It is only my opinion, but I consider The Animated Series to be Season 4 myself. While the animation is clunky by today's standards it is some really good writing. I remember listening to this when I was cleaning out one of our rooms and marveling at that. I think if you start with Star Trek and then TNG, DS9 ect. you'll appreciate how far some of the story telling came on the shows. Sadly, I think they had run out of ideas by the time Enterprise came along. I actually liked the original premise of it, but unfortunately they wanted to make a topical storyline at the time that the rebooted BSG handled a little bit better. As a long time Trek watcher I got frustrated with being preached at that came with some of the latter shows. Between this and the damn arch's it just got tiring. This is where the classic Star Trek succeeded. I didn't realize as a kid that I was being taught a very important lesson. I just enjoyed the ride. Week to week adventures were great and you could jump on any given day(It was in syndication or repeats/rebroadcast to us old timers).
