There's consistency. I haven't read one overwhelmingly positive review. All I'm reading is "it's better than the DVD" or "I was expecting worse, but it's not that bad". Not exactly statements that make someone want to run out the door and buy it.

Just picked up Glad and Brave at Best Buy for $17.99 each. Now I will throw them on my blu-ray shelf like the rest on my Blu's and get around to watching it in a month or 2 when I get some free time. LOL, why do I bother.

im about 45 min in and heres my take, the video is bad, above dvd but i mean this isn't the reference quality it deserves. the extended scenes prove this enough. however this isnt to say its unwatchable. the halos are mild and the lack of detail is frustrating but like i said its better than dvd. the real reason im not kicking myself for this purchase is i love this movie and the audio is GREAT. everything ive heard so far sounds very good. now tomorrow on netflix ill have braveheart and im sure that movie will make me hate gladiator a bit more. but all in all it wasnt as bad as perceived. i can see the errors but its not like when i tried to watch face off on blu or anything.

It's better than the DVD and it's better than it's ever sounded. I'm sure "Joe Six Pack" who wants a nice clean image for his blu-ray will love it while those of us who actually know that grain is there for a reason will complain.

They were playing Gladiator and Braveheart on pretty much EVERY display (FP included) in my local Best-Buy this morning... (pretty smart sales technique really)

Anyways.... Despite the non, or poorly calibrated displays, the EE and DNR on Gladiator was very apparent to me, on pretty much every display. I was of course looking at most of them from multiple distances etc.....

I'm curious to see what my wife says.... I still have not mentioned anything about the rumblings regarding this disc..... I'm guessing she'll either sit there and watch (meaning it's not too impressive) or she'll rave about the PQ (which she does when something really stuns her)

We'll see what she says..... we'll be at the usual 9' from 106" display...... so I'm expecting the EE and DNR to be over-bearing..... but we'll see.

Here's a good comparison

From the Theatrical Edition - http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...theatrical.jpg

From the Extended Edition - http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r-extended.png

I'm guessing Paramount/Universal has the entire movie available somewhere that looks as good as these Extended Edition scenes seamlessly branched in do. Why wasn't it used as the Theatrical Edition?

well 5 out of 6 of the user opinion review on this site say it has good pq....not pop off the screen Ironman pq but good never the less....and the only full reviews I have read are the Dvdbeavers and Digital Bits ones. Where are you reading all these negative reviews from? From the people who havent even watched it yet? Dvdbeaver said" The image is certainly brighter - perhaps more than it may have been intended to be. It's tighter all around and is pretty impressive looking and I hope the captures below support this because this is one of the most anticipated Blu-rays I've seen this year - although some will snub the manipulation" Its obvious some have snubbed the manipulation. The only other review I could find was from hifisoundandvision and it said "the picture is a clear step up from the DVD (eg detail in the costumes/on faces etc), though not that hyper-real experience some Blu-rays can offer. Very filmic, though."

Yes sir, quite a difference there. The extended is much more detailed.

There isn't consistentcy based upon the fact some folks have posted their opinions here calling it complete trash and are selling it.

There aren't overwhelmingly positive reviews but there is enough opinions leading folks to beieve it isn't as bad as it is made out to be. Given the fact Best Buy's offer is a steal IMHO for two movies folks love and have paid much more for others coupled with sending in the SD DVD and getting $10, the poll shows about 50/50 people buying it versus not though I know it is somewhat tainted because if the price wasn't cost effective...

Plenty of critical reviews both here and on AVS, from people who have watched it.

I am a little surprised they were displaying these movies considering quite a few scenes are very graphic. Not really for the under 13 crowd.

When I do watch them I will be viewing it on a 720p 106" projector so I am not expecting to see that many defects. We'll see though.

2 out of those 6 "reviewers" gave it a 5/5 in every category. Real credible there.

Factory settings on those screens hanging in BB usually pump up the sharpness and create the kind of problems you're seeing. There's no way you can attribute that to the BD based on what you've seen.

They weren't playing either at my local BB and will not be because they aren't films that should be displayed for all eyes. What about Braveheart and the nudity and the blood and guts in these films????????
