I bought Gladiator Day one when it came out on blu-ray knowing what had been said about it. I figured that they would be a re-release but not till like a year or 2 afterwards, and i had no problem double dipping. I would love an exchange program but i dont see why there should be one. I understand the movie is a bad transfer in peoples eyes, and that they feel since its called saphire, the promises, all of that they should get a replacement. But like, The movie works, it plays from start to finish, it doesnt freeze, it doesnt corrupt your blu-ray player. Technically the movie does what its meant to. Given what is on the movie isnt very good, and there are faults in the transfer, but thats what we got when we bought it. I just dont see why there should be one on an un-baised view. The disc works, there is no problems with it, just that the picture is bad and so is the audio. So would that be the cause with every bad transfer on blu-ray.I have seen some gawd awful transfers. Though my biased view is i hope there is an exchange program, more so because if this does get to the usa (No one has confirmed it will be, you can speculate and guess, but not confirm) then its ssuper suspect that its only 6 months later.

Would we be clamoring for an exchange program if the video was Perfect and there where not these problems. If there where no problems, i think there would be far less vocal.

Also would there be people rioting on forums if the remastered was released a year or 2 later like gangs of new york?

Also side note, Did gangs of new york remastered version give any type of $10 dollar mail in rebate with previous blu-ray version. I know it was like 2 years between the two, just curious if previous released that are titled "remastered" offered anything.

The people (and probably the majority of consumers) that bought it and don't comb the Internet for blu reviews are the ones who should really be compensated.

Moreover, I can't fathom why some people so adamantly oppose an exchange program when it doesn't affect them.
But I don't think they even know the transfer has some problem or care even.
Many have stated that this is fine and it is an "upgrade" over dvd and what not.

It is an upgrade over the DVD. But that doesn't mean a studio should go "hey, lets release this lower quality version, label it as a top of the line product, and then in 6 months announce the remastered version with the same features and call it the 10th Anniversary Edition."

It's simple really. People just love to pat themselves on the back with the whole "I told you so" attitude.

What's going to be the greatest irony of all is if they don't discontinue the Sapphire Series version so there are 2 versions available and the 10th anniversary edition has way better pq than the supposed top of the line as good as it can get Sapphire Series. The normal average joe would look at both in the store and go with the Sapphire Series because it HAS to be better right!!?? EPIC FAIL.

I'm just saying that if you post on this site, and visit these kind of blu-ray forums then you have an interest in the quality of the format.

Of course those who didn't have a clue have the right to be annoyed, but I see people on here that posted when it was common knowledge the disc was fubar before they got it.

They couldn't resist, knowing a re-release was on the cards, and now they're moaning about it.

Will this be the quickest remastered release ever?

Thank God for internet Blu-ray review sites for informing me on the PQ issues of the initial release. Glad I'm not one of these guys who are crying for a trade in program.

Complaining about a release you knew darn well was of such poor quality = epic failure.

I'd rather be complaining about it, than being a snooty "I told you so" and "ha ha ha you guys are losers for buying it, I'm SO much smarter than you" type of person.

I'd rather shell out the 20ish dollar again and buy the re-master. IF Paramount would hurry it up already.

I WANNA BE ENTERTAINED!!!!

If they are fair, they will remove the saphirre release and leave only the 10th anniversary in stores.

If they are not fair, they will lower the saphirre to below $9 and put the new one at $29 and try to seel out the first release since people will probably buy the cheaper one.

That's what will happen, but there will be stores that will still have the so-called "Sapphire" release in stock when the remaster releases, and customers will have a choice to make.

Hopefully they don't read the packaging re: what the the Sapphire series is supposed to be.

That's assuming the US release is going to be called the 10th Anniversary Edition.

Here in Australia (as in Germany) Gladiator is released by Universal. As a result they don't have the Sapphire Series label attached to the release. The first version of the release (the US Sapphire Series one) was titled the "2-Disc Definitive Edition" here in Australia. Braveheart (released by Fox) was titled a 15th Anniversary Edition. Germany calling their re-release a 10th Anniversary Edition would simply be because the Sapphire Series label is not an option.

In the US Paramount may choose to use the 10th Anniversary Edition option or it may simply be that it's another Sapphire Series release with different cover art. Until it's announced for the US speculating whether there will be two versions in store will be difficult. It might even be that nothing about the art changes at all except for an SKU. If that's the case, hopefully all old versions will be removed but it will just be a matter of waiting and seeing what happens.

Me too!

However, because of those reviews, I had to see for myself. I rented it on BD. The PQ was as pitiful as they said. My DVD copy with 6.1 dts ES discrete will certainly do until the re-release comes out!
