Umm.. read a few posts up. Unless the the guys over at Digital Bits got a "non-retail" copy.... there is no yellow box (although I hope they do the yellow box UPC as I have yet to pick up a copy).

"As far as spotting the new Gladiator Blu-ray in stores, it appears the only difference on the packaging is this: On the back of the slipcase and disc cover insert, there's a little white Paramount logo on the bottom right corner. Right above that on the ORIGINAL Blu-ray are the words "2-DISC SET". On the NEW Blu-ray, those words are missing. That's it."

I think it's more that FrozenPinky was trying to tell people exactly how the exchange program is going to go when Paramount hasn't said anything. We don't know for a fact that this is how it will be. If you notice, I said in numerous places that they probably will want the disc back. It's not about wether it's gelling with a person or not. It's not even about crapping on the other guy. It's about presenting things as facts when there are none and acting like some sort of an insider. He never said "I am guessing" or "if I had to guess." He specifically said "Paramount is getting counts right now" and stated a few other things as facts as well.

You can defend it all you want, but the mod has spoken and that's good enough for me. I'll be anxiously awaiting an e-mail from Paramount with instructions for the exchange program.

I picked up a NED version, should be coming to me within the week, I'll report on it. If you sell your current version on eBay, and find one from Holland, should only cost you around $15 extra, if anyone was willing to go that route. For my 2nd favorite film, I'm not waiting for studios to get their act together here.

To be fair, he may actually know someone at Paramount who is involved with the exchange program. If so, he wouldnt be guessing.

It's possible... but at the same time I always question people when they say they have connections. It's probably from collecting film scores and how there's soooo many dishonest people in that community.

But what is the point of all of this? I'm not directing this specifically at you SquidPuppet, but how is this the focus of the whole Gladiator exchange program all of a sudden?

I think people should just focus on whatever Paramount tells them to do (which was the point I was making 5 pages ago). Or even how awesome the new version is going to look. And also giving a big giant thanks to Paramount for even doing an exchange program!

Bill Hunt has updated the information on how to recognise the new version and he concurs with RAH

Quote:
we've got a quick update for you on Gladiator: Paramount has now informed me that the new revised Blu-ray with the vastly improved HD transfer WILL have a YELLOW UPC symbol on the packaging, as was the case with Saving Private Ryan. So that's how you'll recognize it in stores. Just ignore that "2-Disc Set" text thing I mentioned earlier this morning, as it may not apply. ........
Contact info there also.

That helps with people buying in the stores, but what about us who have to (or want to) purchase online? The same SKU means it'll be a crap-shoot as to which one you get from, say, Amazon.

Hopefully, we can buy the old version from Amazon, then use the exchange program to get the remastered copy.

You could always buy it now and then exchange it later. Obviously, a lot of people have already made do with the poor presentation via DVD, TV, and even the current Blu-ray.

Just buy it, enjoy the film for what you find interesting, and then participate in the exchange. Unless of course, you are one of those folks who justs needs to blow three and a half hours every single day to a viewing of Gladiator.

That's why Paramount is doing the limited exchange program. If you are unhappy with, exchange it. If you can't see the problem with it then don't.

I've already sent in my email request, so, depending on their response, I will buy the current version and exchange it later. The problem would be if the exchange program is only for a set period of time - if I hold off buying now, I may have a difficult time ordering an updated copy later on.

Its just like speculating on when Finding Nemo will be released. Gives us something to BS about.

Any word on when the remaster hits? Also, are they going to stop production on the old transfer? Just wondering

And that's fine and completely understandable.

The only reason I keep coming back in here to defend myself is simple; do people think it was a plot of mine? I’ve been a member since March 2009.

Hmmmm, it’s March 2009. Gladiator isn’t yet out on Blu-ray. However, in about 15 months, I want to lie about something. Let me become a member at Blu-ray.com, gain their trust, then hope a shitty transfer of Gladiator is released. Then I hope that they’ll offer an exchange program, at which time I could finally plant my lie and say “I know someone”

Lets face it, I don’t work at OfficeMax or Blockbuster or Applebee’s. I make discs. I talk to studios and people.

Some of you members work at McDonalds. Some at Best Buy. Do I doubt the things you members say about things that happen at your job?

So im not willing to read through pages of infantile bickering about god knows what.

Has anyone received a reply from the email that was floating around here over the weekend? The one that had us put "Gladiator BD" in the subject line?

I sent my email as instructed and have yet to hear back from Paramount. They were probably overwhelmed by the response. It will probably be done in an organized fashion with a return mailer sent to make the exchange. I'm being patient. If the new editions show up at retailers with the yellow UPC. I will likely just exchange it since I have not opened mine yet and I highly doubt they are recalling the previous version.

How can we tell the difference between the new master edition from the old master edition on Amazon?
