After doing a quick scan, I watched my favorite scene (the one with the tigers) and noticed that the new digital composite for the effects on this remastered release is far superior to anything I had seen before. It actually looks like the tigers are right there. It had always come across as overtly fake to me before. Very impressed with the new release!

For those who have received their replacement copy, what did the disc come in? Was it in a flimsy case or did it come in a Blu-Ray case...? Mine should be arriving soon and I'm worried it's going to be cracked or some other kind of damage

Mine came in a paper dvd/cd sleeve inside a cardboard mailer. It seems sturdy enough that it shouldn't get damaged.

Mine came today and was packaged in the same way. A person would have to actively try to damage the disc in the packing they used, unlike the packing I've been seeing from Amazon lately.

Don't know if anyone has confirmed it yet, but looks like the new remaster has a yellow UPC now. We got a shipment in a couple days ago at Walmart.

Ok, I have just realized I was working under a wrong assumption here.

I thought the newly remastered version would be a new edition indeed, with new cover art and all, and I was expecting that to be released.

But now it seems it's actually just a corrected version of the previous, already available edition, with the new, improved transfer but with the same specs and cover art, only with some UPC difference a la SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.

So there's no point in waiting anymore, for it seems is already available from some retailers, and I should just make sure of getting the corrected edition, is that right?

Yes, you'll want to make sure you're getting the Remastered version. Stay far, far away from the original release.

Great news! Was a little hesitant about buying it because I didn't want to buy the wrong one. The yellow UPC will make all this much easier. Hope I can find one in Wally or Best Buy!

OK I just picked up Gladiator today and I see no 2 disc set on the front or back, but it is on the spine, my copy also has the yellow UPC, so is it safe to assume that this IS the remastered version?,I was going to wait to open until I got feedback from you guys here.

Thanks

The copy I have has no 2 disc set at the bottom right hand corner of the slip cover and the case. Isn't this the remastered version.

Thanks, I will open and check it out then.
Funny thing though, I was just at Walmart on Tuesday and they only had 1 left with a white UPC, I go back today(Friday) and they have 5 more and all these have yellow UPC.

I'm dying to get this. I held off on the original release because it looked so processed -- and now the unanimous verdict seems to be this is among the very best looking BDs ever.

I went hunting at two different Best Buys -- neither had GLADIATOR on the shelves. Since you guys are starting to find yellow UPCs, I wonder if Best Buy didn't pull all their bad copies off the shelves -- waiting for the new ones.

I'll keep looking...

I just picked mine up from Wal-Mart on Saturday and it has the yellow UPC! They had quite a few copies, but sadly half of them were the unremastered version.

The only thing that got me about my copy however was when I noticed that it had no "2-Disc Set" on the slipcover, but it DOES in fact have it on the case itself...? But again, it has the yellow UPC on the CASE... should this be a concern? I decided to go ahead and take a look through the movie. However I don't have a vivid memory of my last viewing of Gladiator on Blu-ray - as I rented it a while back and it was on a different/crappier TV than what I'm using now. Well, I can't help but to think that it SEEMS much better than what I remember it...

Anyhow, I look forward to watching the entire movie tomorrow.

Get a flashlight or other stong light and read the identification markings on the actual disc.

That's the certain way to know which revision you have.

I wouldn't know by just watching it since I haven't seen either version yet.

The yellow UPC indicates that it is the 4k remastered version. None of the DNR/EE releases have a yellow UPC.

I know this post will get lost in a sea of similar posts, but I must chime in and say that the remastered release of Gladiator has launched it into "must-own" status not only for action/adventure/drama fans, but videophiles as well. It is one of the most natural, clean and beautiful looking movies in my collection and I can't wait to watch it again in the near-future!

Yes, it's a clear and marked improvement over the first-run release. Make no mistake - the remastered version is worth having!

Thanks go out to Paramount Studios for making good on one of its finest movies and offering to exchange it at no cost to appreciative fans.

I just picked up the remastered version at Walmart. The yellow UPC code
is definitely an indication that you have the new version. The movie looks amazing! I wish it had cost less than $24.99, but it was worth it.

Default Weird numbers on back of blu-ray

Last Thursday (8/26/10) I exchanged my original copy of Gladiator at Best Buy for one that does not have the "2 Disc Set" above the Paramount logo on the back of the slipcase OR the back of the actual box. The UPC code is white. It did not have the rebate sticker on the cover. Funny thing is, the numbers on the back of Disc One are really odd. They are: BVDL-103860B1 and BVDL-103860A1. Yes, there are two different numbers on the same disc. I called the Paramount exchange number, talked to two different people and, of course, they had no idea. Does anyone know if this is the remastered version? Thanks for your help.
