I bought the original version last year from Deep Discount. What should I do to get it exchanged for the Remastered Edition?

Hi, I know the difference between the two versions, but when I got my copy, I only looked at the slipcover (I know silly), which the slipcover did not contain the "2 disc set" but the actual blu ray cover had the dreaded "2 disc set" on the case after I checked it at home. My question is relating does the slipcover tell if it is the "remaster" or should I have checked the inner blu ray casing?

Mine had no 2 disc set on both the slipcover and the blu-ray disc cover and it was the remastered version I believe.

From the above picture, you can see that the old discs that have "2-Disc Set" above the Paramount logo also bear this number.

You must slide out the keepcase inside and check that for the accursed "2-Disc Set". If it does say that, it will have the serial number above.

My remaster, bought this morning from Best Buy, has the slipcover with no "2-Disc Set" written above the Paramount logo, and it bears the serial number above.

But the keepcase inside, as well as not having the "2-Disc Set" written on it, bears a new serial number in the very right corner...

I'm surprised no one's picked up on this yet! Hopefully this post will make it a little easier for some of you to spot the new discs.
I wanted to bring this up because I fell for it .

FYI: I have BOTH versions. I've compared them. The one I bought a week ago at Target (w/o "2 disc set" on both slipcover & disc back) is ABSOLUTELY the REMASTERED version. (No yellow IPC on mine, but no white security tape). The visual improvement is incredible. And I am a huge "Gladiator" fan who didn't mind the first BD release that much.

The serial number on BOTH versions (slip case) is the 6517 one.

And the serial number on BOTH versions (disc case) is the 6515 one.

NO difference!

So unless I've misunderstood what the poster in the quote I included is saying (it's possible. I live in a "senior moment." grins), the serial numbers have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with whether the disc is NEW or OLD.

Stick to the absence of the "2 disc set" copy on BOTH outer and inner back covers. And the absence of white security tape on top.

Both those, in my experience, assure that you DO have the REMASTERED version.

And since I paid only $7.99 for my original, I'm gonna' sell it to Amazon for $7.50. No hassle/free ship. Recoup my original cost.

I'm a happy BD camper. - AJ

This confusion about exactly what is the telltale sign of a remastered version is driving me crazy, and I guess I'm not the only one...

I've got my copy yesterday from Amazon, and:

- The outer slipcover does NOT show the "2-Disc Set" text over the Paramount logo on the right lower corner.

- The outer slipcover DOES have a "Save $10" sticker for a refund campaign that expired on 6/30/2010.

- The case itself does NOT show the "2-Disc Set" text over the Paramount logo on the right lower corner.

- The UPC box on the case it is not yellow but WHITE.

- The case carries NO security tape anywhere.

¿Are any of those signs enough on itself to tell me I got the remastered one, or should there be several of them coinciding to be sure?

I have not opened it yet, but, is there any sign on the disc itself, any serial number or the likes, that would certify a remastered version?

The most concrete way to tell IMHO is take disc 1 flip it upside down under a lamp and look at the number on the outer ring. If that number ends in R1 you have the original DNR/EE debacle, but if it ends in R2 you have the newly remastered version.

As long as it's missing the two disc logo on the slipcover and case, you have the remastered.

There is no code, people said that you can match the inner ring numbers to the one posted, it is the remastered.

My inner ring number doesn't match and I am positive it's the remastered. My case even carried the missing 2 disc logos. So it would be very strange if the case indicates a remaster but the disc inside is not.

Well mine doesn't match and I had the two missing logos. When I played it, I am certain it's the new release. What does that mean?

Thank you! I have checked and, while the number on the extra features ends in R1, the number on the feature film disc ends in R2, so I guess I did get the remastered one.

But of course, now that I went and open it, the final, DEFINITIVE test would be watching the movie. The screen captures from the original accompanying the Blu-ray.com review showed quiet a DNR disaster, as well as a pretty different color timing on some scenes, so it should be easy to tell one from the other.

You're welcome.

I finally watched this last night and the difference in the two is rather blatant. In the initial release everything has a gray/light blue tint while this new remastered release has natural colors including extremely accurate flesh tones.

After checking a few crucial scenes, I can safely confirm that I DID get the remastered one ... and that my Sony CRT TV suffers from a significant overscan!

By the by, among the many adjustments both on my Blu-ray player and my TV set, I have the TV color temperature on "neutral", and that orange, almost reddish tint from the review screen captures is actually not so apparent; only if I set it to "warm" I get almost the same hues.

So, I don't know how those captures were obtained, but, from my experience, the color timing discrepancies are not as distinct as they would seem judging from the screen captures.

Edit: I must say that, contrary to most reviews, I feel disappointed even with the remastered transfer picture quality. The image is too electronic, more video-like than film-like, and suffers from no small measure of contrast boost and black crush. Not a bad transfer, but one that could still be much improved upon. Just my humble 2 cents.

Edit 2: And quite a few instances of distorsion in the high range of the soundtrack, too!!

Am I being too demanding?

I didn't notice any distortion in the soundtrack and the only fault I found with the transfer was occasional speckles of dirt and a few brief unresolved blacks.

I'll check again tonight or tomorrow. I'm waiting to get the release with the yellow UPC.

Can you confirm if the yellow sticker is on the case or on the actual cover inside, like Saving Private Ryan?
