if you look at the title and everybody that wrote a review on it. the site automatically calculates their ratings and gives you an average in every category

So of all the Blu-rays reviewed by the staff here what is the avg rating for each of: PQ, AQ, extras, Movie, overall. I suspect the PQ average is something like 3.5 meaning that the 3 given to Gladiator is actually below the average. |

Solid review. It was hard for me to disagree with anything Martin said.
Anyone can take the numbers and average them....we don't need an extra category just for that...the point of the final rating is for the reviewer to assess the overall value of the entire disc, which may be a lot less OR greater than the average. For instance, a movie that critically is amazing and has a great transfer might deserve an extremely high recommendation just for that....but if averaged may come out to a lot less and send out the wrong message ![]() Last edited by Sussudio; 09-03-2009 at 12:49 AM. |

Did you see it in the theater? It didn't have all this extra BS processing applied. The colors looked natural, there wasn't all this nonsense DNR and EE applied, and the CGI did stand out from the live action stuff but that is normal and expected. Surely they have the sucker in the vault somewhere.

It sounds like the transfer is an old one and was made with the intention of making a DVD out of it (since there was very little HD back then). The resolution of a DVD frame is 720x480. I don`t think anyone was planning for a future release which has frame sizes of 1920x1080. The transfer was likely good enough for DVD but just doesn`t cut it for today`s standards.
