I love the insults hurled at people who notice deficiencies. Class.

i'll put it this way.if i were watching the cubs play, and gladiator was the ball , and someone on the other team hit the ball [gladiator] in the sits ,i'd throw the ball back on the field.

Well that's two strikes against you! One for throwing a perfectly fine disc and the second for being a Cubs fan. One strike left....................

You don't think the display size matters? Well I don't see but perhaps a scant few posts here complaining lots about this on a smallish display. Didn't Bill in his opinion about this BD touch upon viewing this on a smallish display?

Believe me if it looked horrible being a distraction to watch because I notice that all over the place, I'd be one of the first to say as much! TDK and EE? The same thing!

No thanks though about sticking to SD DVDs, simply because of the quality differences with BDs which suit me fine!

I've watched this twice over the last week. On my 40" LCD it looks just fine, and I was in disagreement with the negative reviews. However, on my large front projection setup there is noticable EE and DNR on "busy" scenes. and scenes with light/dark contrast. Overall I can live with it and it is an improvement over the DVD, though not as much as one would hope from this flagship "Sapphire Series".

I think the squabbles, though, are pretty minor and if you're on the fence pick it up. I doubt it will get a recall or rerelease...it's not that bad.

I will say I'm happy to have only paid $7.99 for it (22.99 from BB - $5 w/ Braveheart - $10 rebate).

LAWSUIT! LAWSUIT! :P
It's marketing... did you expect them to say "Pretty good audio and video" Besides, it has more to do with the popularity and achievements of the films (little gold statues) than it does with being meticulously detailed transfers.....

Lawsuit??? You should read what you are writing before hitting "Submit"

.

Of course it will get another release..... Just not likely anytime soon.... Casino Royale, 300, etc.. were all given additional releases, but not for the same reason as Full Metal Jacket.... but they were given re-releases nonetheless, and I expect Gladiator AND Braveheart will be given additional releases in the future.

According to their press release, it has EQUAL weight. They bragged about the PQ Betaman. They did.

When the marketing emphasis is on quality ("the Sapphire Series will deliver the best pictures in the best picture") then one has a reasonable expectation that Paramount would treat all the films in this series with the respect they are due, rather than cheap out (if that was the reason for this) and put makeup on an old transfer from the pre-Blu Ray era.

Rob Moore, vice chairman of Paramount Pictures:
“Because of Blu-ray’s phenomenal capabilities,” he said, “the Sapphire Series will deliver the best pictures in the best picture.”
I already posted this on another thread.
It's not only marketing, they're actually saying "this is the sh**! you will be BLOWN away" you know.... something to that effect
They should live up to their own standards.
I'm tired of hearing "it's good enough" "looks better than dvd" "it's fine" when a classic such as this deserves better AND when it's actually possible to do a better transfer that could blow us away.

Hello, I apologize if this has been asked and answered before, but I was wondering how the $10 mail-in rebate works? Unfortunately, I do not have the blu on hand (or opened yet) because I am at home from college (for my birthday and Labor Day). However, I do have my DVD copies of this and Braveheart here, yet I noticed that neither have proofs of purchase on them! I'll be taking them back to school with me until I figure out what to do. Anyone have any suggestions/ advice? Thanks.

Exactly right , the only problem is , the Studio probably realizes 80 % of the buying public just do not realize they are not getting the best quality possible. They have never heard of EE or DNR and what the hell is that awful grainy looking crap.
