what has that to do with format. 35mm film is a way to shoot a movie. This has nothing to do with format war. And people would not change formats again. Just when blu has hit its stride. If most people (for now) is happy with DVD. Then all people will definetely be more then satisfied with blu because its 6 times better then DVD.

The format after blu ray will fizzle in the wind. Or do you really want to change formats once AGAIN. Because i can asure you people will be MORE then satisfied with Blu Ray because all the new movies looks fantastic. I can't see how a movie like WallE or King Kong and band of brothers can look better and there is many more

So you're saying for all eternity, Blu-ray will be the end all be all of home video formats? You're funny. His post was perfectly valid, it seems like you missed the point, especially judging by your last comment.

if that format features uncompressed deep color video without chroma subsampling and whatever other nasty things they do to squeeze movies onto discs, you bet i do

Better quality than Blu-ray would pretty much mean 1:1 digital copies of DIs and film masters. Seems to me that studios wouldn't want that to happen, at least not anytime soon. Maybe if theater ticket sales die off after another 20-40 years.

Anthony, don’t be too hard on the fellow.

I schooled him on dnr here and then I heard he subsequently fled to AVS (to sign up as a new member) where days later, mhafner did the same thing.

Dude, I just linked you……….

But in a positive way.
I found your 300 greenscreen hiccup to be a pleasant diversion from the incessant dnr/ee chatter going on at *science* at the time (Dec. ’08).

P.S.
Are you really from Kentucky?

The other issue is most people don't have big enough screens for resolution greater than 1920x1080p to even be visible to the human eye, even for people like us. So really, I think while DVD was around for I think 10 years, blu-ray will probably have a 15-20 year life time, probably absorb 3D at some point as well.

I honestly don't see another physical media format after blu-ray, especially since consumers don't currently have televisions capable of displaying an image better than 1080p.

It took forever to decide on an HDTV standard, and there are still millions of people with standard def TV. For another format to emerge, a higher-resolution display standard has to emerge, and I just don't see that happening in the near future, considering how long it's taken to get to HD.

I think we are approaching the law of diminishing returns. Since we can't display higher than 1080p on our current televisions, what do we really think we are gonna get out of another format? Maybe a little higher bitrate, but that's about it, honestly.

So basically, since our televisions can't display anything better than blu-ray (give or take), the television standard has to change first, before any new format can be conceived.

Plus an other similarity most of the HD DVD fanboys posting how BD is not worth it never saw BDs {or in this case the BD version of the movie}
And I don't understand why folks cannot understand that BECAUSE they have done the same exact thing with other mediocre BD catalogs that have been released. Want more? OK! Some bought another SD DVD of a movie that was a re-release and deemed it an upgrade for what they already had.

In most cases, the BD release is quite a bit better than the DVD, so this is all really a moot point being blown out of proportion by the fact that Paramount and Universal mishandled Gladiator. There's nothing wrong with expecting the best, but that's not always going to happen and it's ridiculous if it is considered wrong by some people to accept less. This release is a fairly rare case in the grand scheme of things, and since when it is wrong to have your own opinion/way of doing things?
I dont EXPECT the best, but I hope for it. And its not WRONG for anyone to accept ANY level of quality. Some bought it and some didnt. I am cool with that. I am bothered by the studios handling of the title, not that some consumers buy it.

Please come with examples...
And Anthony P. the HV DVD argument is pure lameness, please come with real valid point of why we should accept mediocre BD's.

I'm not sure I understand where you are coming from. You don't agree folks have lots of catalog titles in their collection and many may be considered mediocre and yet they were still purchased??

Based on that, it sure seems those mediocre catalog title BDs are offering better enjoyment and were accepted as being the best available on the market today for a movie they really like. Because this is Gladiator, those same folks do a complete turnaround? Why, because it is deemed "Sapphire"???? Well does that give another studio the right to do anything they please with BDs because they weren't touted as Sapphire or the like and they turned out mediocre????

Well if one bought those others, why not Gladiator if they like the movie then?
