Default Is Gladiator worth it if you don't have the DVD?

Is the PQ better than the DVD? Is it worth buying still?

The PQ is better than the DVD by default but the truth is it's just not a big step up. One of the worst transfers of the year and the worst thing about it is it was one of the most anticipated ones. Unless you can get it for about $10, I say stick with the DVD.

There is a several-hundred post thread about this very topic, OP.

Have you read it?

If so, you'll know that some think the BD is great, some think it's the worst ever.

If not, tsk tsk.....

the movie itself is reason enough to own it. and if you search the trade threads, you s/b able to find it for around $15.

If I understand your question correctly: You don't have the DVD but want to know if the Blu-ray is worth it???? Assuming you are a fan of Gladiator as a movie. It is a must have blu-ray, especially if you do not have the DVD. The step-up from a DVD is enough in my opinion to definitely NOT buy the DVD and buy the Blu instead. I am one of the ones who felt the transfer was not very good to Blu-ray, but there is no way in hell I would recommend buying the DVD instead! IMO, buying a DVD now-a-days just does not make any sense if the price difference is not significant between a Blu and a DVD. Me personally, I stopped buying DVDs altogether almost 3 years ago.

It's worthwhile for the audio, for having two cuts of the movie (theatrical and extended), and for having loads and loads of extras. PQ is the only flaw (...and I still don't think it's completely terrible, just a wee bit soft).

If it's one of your favorite movies... why not?

IMO, PQ is fine.

It's worth buying if you can get it cheap.

If you like the movie, buy it instead of the dvd. You get both versions and enough extras to keep you busy for a day. I just wish I wouldn't have paid $27 for it.

it's absolutely worth buying, I don't know what the hell are people talking about the transfer, to me it looks very nice and sharp with excellent colors much better than its dvd counterpart which I also have. Don't listen to the super anal complainers, if you can find it for a good deal then I say don't hesitate to buy it. I bought mine for $10 from Amazon's black Friday sale.

There's so many ways to watch a movie... I wouldn't spend money on it.

I bought it and just don't see where the PQ is poor on Gladiator. Is it the best no but it is not as bad as people make it out to be. I don't see it being much worse than Braveheart which others say is good. The one spot in Gladiator where the complaint may be warranted is during the intro sequence for the universal and dreamworks logos that part is awful. I wonder if people see that and it gets them in the mind frame the transfer is bad.

It's not the greatest transfer just not as bad as people make it out to be. Other titles like Ghostbusters are much worse.

Not much worse than Braveheart? What are you viewing it on and from what distance?

Well if you dont own the DVD I have no idea why you wouldnt get the BD version if you love the movie.

The PQ on the BD sucks, but I wouldnt buy the DVD version over it. Maybe just rent/netflix it?

It could certainly be better..... but I didn't own it on DVD either, so I bought it, and Braveheart (which I also didn't own on DVD) because the Blu-ray releases are currently the best available option for these films......

And yes... the Audio on Gladiator is very nice...... but I don't recall the DVD, since it had only been a rental for me.
