Of course there are issues but the real question for each and every person is how noticeable these are when you watch it in your home theatre. Rent if you can or buy for cheap if you can if you are not sure.

The frames are matched. Not all of the flaming arrows were erased, some of them are visible in the exact same spot in both frames. You can also see the outlines of were some arrows used to be before the dirt processing software scrubbed them out.

What I meant is that there are also other issues troubling this disc, not just vanishing arrows.

Stop squinting at a computer monitor, trying to find flaws in still frames and wait to see how this disc looks in full motion.

AVS will make you start questioning whether you see DNR and EE in real life. That place is friggin' scary!

I'm not familiar with his posts, but suffice it to say that the images in the "theatrical" version of his comparisons do not look at all similar to the screenshots at DVDBeaver. Hopefully another respected reviewer can chime in, to quell your fears. I personally am eagerly awaiting my pre-ordered copy without any trepidation.

+1000 Only 1 out of 200 blu-ray's is worthy of a purchase by their "standards"...

AVSer #1- "eh that looks great to me"
AVSer #2 "you need to zoom in 500% to see the DNR and Halos"

Interesting to see the reaction now that it's known they were posted on the AVS forum.

Does this fact alone suddenly make them less valid?
Just to make one thing clear, I'm absolutely not into the extremism that is often showcased there, but in the case of Gladiator I could do nothing but agree with it.

I received my copies of the two movies friday, with FedEx in Denmark from DVDPacific. I'm a reviewer on a moviesite and I have preordered these from day one. I watch movies in a complete light controlled room. Dark walls, black ceiling, dark carpet.

Oppo BDP-83 player, JVC HD1 projector and 104" brilliant white Carada screen. My eyes are good, especially with contact lenses. Screenshots doesn't always tell the true story, but in this case I'm sad to acknowledge, they do.

Braveheart is gorgeous. But Gladiator is actually a travesty.

You should try and watch the white text, hovering with geographic information, once in a while. Germania and Zucchobar captions. Had my seating place been +10 yards from the screen, I bet it would have looked swell. It was ringing, jumping and with halos around.

The extended cuts look just fine.

I can not believe professionals is behind this release. A Sapphire release. It takes years to build a reputation, Criterion, but here it took the first release to crash it. One of the most sought after mainstream movies and then you take an old master and hope the public will be satisfied. Sure they will. Watching on 40" screens +12 feet from the movie.

I'm most anxious to hear Ridley Scotts own words, WHEN this release gets its fair share in the coming reviews. A master of pictures, who have approved?!?!?! this transfer?!?!

I can personally live with Gladiator looking mediocre, but if Alien should get the same treatment. That would be a disaster!!!

Two thumbs way down!!!

I'll only be watching the extended cuts when I fire these puppies up anyway so I doubt these transfers will bother me at all.

No, I have not seen it, but several people who did - including the person in post 543 - reported that the issue is just as clear as the screenshots are showing it.
