I too am glad they are fixing it, but I certainly dont applaud them. It's a mistake and they SHOULD remedy it. Also, I think their silence on the issue has been low class.

Agreed, I'll applaud them when they do the right thing.

Hopefully a US Announcement is forthcoming. If it's hitting early May overseas, then May 4 or 11 would seem likely for us here in the US.

I'm not worried about the cost of this. That being said, the fact is that I paid $9.42 for the current release. I can sell it to a disc replay store for $5 or so. Thus, it cost me a "rental" to watch it. Not a big deal.

I do agree that Universal, who provided the elements to Paramount, should have done it right the first time. But this is not a egregious offense...

True, I guess I'm waiting to see how much they actually decide to "clean up" from their "mess" . They could have chosen to do nothing, so I applaud the decision to try and make things right...doesn't mean I agree with the way they're going about doing it though.

LOL I still can't believe they're actually announcing the 10th Anniversary edition merely 6 months after releasing the Sapphire Series edition.

It boggles the mind. (But, again, kudos to them for at least owning up to the mistake and fixing it.)

The only difference is that the practices employed on the DVD format are making their way onto Blu-ray. Six months or six years, we will see reissues of popular films on this format: that's a given.

That cover is kick ass. So should I sell the Sapphire Series release to put money down for the 10th Anniversary or what? Wait for the USA announcement?

Can you cite an example of a 6-month gap on DVD or BD?

I'll bet it's unprecedented.

I think if they don't offer an exchange I'll just keep the version that's out now.

I got it for $10 on Black Friday and haven't watched it yet. I did open it to send for the rebate which they denied even though I had everything in order.

It's really not my favorite movie. I like having it on Blu and I suppose I may watch it someday but I think they shouldn't just re-release it without a trade in program for people who own it on Blu currently.

They are fixing it, but they have yet to own up. All too stealth for my liking. When they announce the new one, lets see if they acknowledge the prior as being a "mistake".

If no exchange program is offered, what about a rebate for people who bought the first one? Like mail in the UPC code or Proof of Purchase off the first Gladiator release plus a copy of your receipt and get $10 off the new edition of Gladiator.

I know that sounds a little crazy, but you never know.

Here's my argument:

As stated before, a re-release so soon is admission of failure of the first release which even is acknowledged by the 'inferior' comment on the main page.

Was I aware of the bad quality before I bought it? YES. I still hope they offer some time of exchange program regardless.

To those who oppose the exchange program: What about the people that never heard of Blu-Ray.com? The same people that have never read a blu-ray review. Did they know the original release was substandard before they purchased it? NO, they did not. It was marketed as the prestigious 'sapphire' series and the average consumer that bought it probably (and ignorantly) assumed that, because it's a blu-ray, it will be of excellent quality.

In the end, it's my bad that I bought it as I knew what I was in store for. My point is, the majority of consumers probably did not know. For that reason alone, they should offer an exchange program of some sort.
