Pretty sure it's your eyes. There is DNR everywhere, flaming arrows are missing entirely, the list goes on and on. Next to the DVD, it's an improvement, yes, but next to most any other BD, it's a wreck. Check out the opening scene again--look at the catapults. Notice how they're surrounded by thick halos like forcefields? Those shouldn't be there...

I myself stand with the crowd that won't buy this movie until it has been given the proper due diligence for Blu-Ray. We all vote with our dollars. If a great movie like this has this epic a thread of folks railing against it's improper transfer to Blu-Ray, that says it all. By choosing not to purchase it we, the very nesscary consumer, send a strong message. Hopefully the studios learn that we are paying attention, we expect a certain level of quality before they recieve our money, and that they and other studios should think twice about a little added effort on a transfer before they put out a half.............hearted version.

Hey guys,

Gladiator is my alltime favorite movie, and I've heard so many bad things. You guys think an updated version is on the way?

also,

How does this movie (quality wise) not story wise, compare to TROY. I have TROY on bluray and I think it looks pretty good!

First post and bluray movie n00b

Lots of insiders have said that a remaster is on the way, they're just not sure when (hopefully by the end of the year).

As for Troy, Gladiator is a much better film, but Troy is a much better Blu-Ray.

If you're a blu-ray noob you might not find it objectionable.
Many of the people complaining here have invested a lot of money into a home theater that produces a reference picture and have watched hundreds of discs, having formed certain quality expectations. If you have no expectations past "better-than-DVD" you'll probably be satisfied if you really want the movie, though I wouldn't go past a rental.

Gladiator is one of my favorite films. I've come close a few times to purchasing the blu-ray but have been able to hold off. Here's to hoping that a remastered version does come out.

Gladiator I consider my favorite movie. I bought it on DVD and now on Blu-ray. When they come out with the remastered version I will double dip. Why deny yourself the pleasure.

I tripled dipped (DVD, EE DVD, BD) and would quadruple dip if a remastered version comes out.

Swedish Version (by Universal) was pushed back to 10/13/2010. I assume the potential US release will be out around the same time, most likely at the same time as the Robin Hood Blu-ray.

Is there any quality difference between the UK release of Gladiator Blu-ray, and the U.S. version?
