Called this morning and they said to leave name and phone number and they would call back when the program was up and running.
I am curious if this is going to be a case of I will send you your's if you send me mine first and the exchange is done by USPS. That takes forever. I WANT MY "GOOD" GLADIATOR NOW. |

I don't regret purchasing the first release, as I had never seen the film before and the extras were abundant. I'm just glad Paramount is finally exchanging this; as much as I'm content with the first release, a better transfer will be much appreciated.

Its not the exact frame and he's moving so what you're seeing is motion blur

K, lemme try and help some people out here that say the original looks better or they can't tell a difference. These are obviously only screenshots, but still folks should be able to pull out these differences. Of course, seeing the film in motion is the big thing, but we can still glean some things from the screenshots:
http://comparescreenshots.slicx.com/comparison/68257 1. Due to EE, robes have halos and overly-bright and unnatural looking white folds. Excessive "ringing" around figures. Look at the main Senator's white hair. When swapping to the remastered version, color timing is obviously different (looks more blue but still more natural to me), unnatural white robes now look natural and have more detail, and the Senator's white hair now doesn't look like clumps. More fine detail is to be seen as well. 2. Color timing is obviously different, again with a more blue tint on the remastered shot. Facial detail and leather detail on Commodus' lapels are the big tells in this shot. Grain can now be seen. 3. Color timing, again. Marcus Aurelius' hairline and brow don't look waxy, detail can be seen in wrinkles and hair. Armor detail gets a big boost here. 4. This one should be obvious. EE ringing around the lion standard and flag are really prominent, loss of detail in ringmail armor and figures in the middle of the frame. In the remastered shot, there's a lot more detail in the armor- rings can be seen, facial expressions show up, Maximus' horse's armor has more detail as well. Shot looks more natural and less like everyone has a glowing forcefield around them. 5. Big difference in color timing. I can only remember the DVD and I don't remember it ever being that blue. I was dissatisfied with the colors on the BD, so this is something I see as an improvement. That aside, a lot more facial detail is present, armor detail, and the faint EE ringing around Maximus is gone. Grain is visible but it's far from distracting. 6. These aren't the same frame exactly, which makes comparison a little more difficult. You can tell because of the clothing and a curl of hair on the right of the frame moves slightly. However, there's less pink pig and more portly announcer (color timing seems much improved) and more facial detail is present. There's more and less detail around clothing due to the differing frames. Hope this helps or at least sparks some more contructive debate than "the new is better" or vice versa. |

Take a look at #2 and don't tell me there isn't detail lost in the Emperor's forehead. The colour in #1 isn't how it should look at all. I might stick with my original copy... or buy the new one and sell the one I like least. |

aramis,
Excellent summary. ![]() Quote:
like what I'm seeing in the stills of the re-mastered version but I could be wrong. Regardless, this is a huge step up from the original. Come on Paramount, call me back already. ![]() Last edited by petmic10; 07-21-2010 at 06:52 PM. |

You're talking about this picture? http://comparescreenshots.slicx.com/...257/picture:2# Look at the detail in the emperor's robe and armor compared to the original. If you think the original version looks better, I recommend you keep that one. |
