I've already posted, but...

I've called (left vm, didn't speak with anyone) and e-mailed early last week. Still haven't heard anything.

I am, however, amused at the fact that, while Paramount is not admitting 'fault' with the original release, they have stated that all future copies of the film will contain the remastered transfer.

Passive-aggressive speaks...

When I called about the saving private ryan reissue, they sent me a ups shipping bag and instructions to return the movie. I didn't really read it because I had already exchanged my copy at bb. I'm guessing with in a week or so, well be getting those bags in the mail. There, now stop bickering.

Then, everybody, the best thing you can all do is just wait until you get your email reply. No need to even discuss it.

Hmmm, what's the point of a forum?

That means there's no need for anyone to come in here and ask if they know anything or heard anything. Everyone is allowed to speculate, but when I give my answer, it's shot down.

So, you guys talk to your Paramount colleagues and I'll talk to my Paramount colleagues.

Sorry I shared with you all

Sounds good!

But in all seriousness, it's the way you present your information. The only information we have is that you can call this number. Even the insiders haven't commented on how the exchange program is going to work. But you came here (like in the SPR thread) and acted like you knew for a fact what's happening.

The point the moderator (and myself as well) is trying to make is that none of this is known for a fact. Within the next few weeks, I am sure we'll have full legitimate details on what's going to happen and instructions for the exchange program.

Again, it's not the information you're presenting, it's how you're presenting it. Like I said, you probably will have to send your disc back. But until Paramount gives specific instructions, it's all just speculation.

No doubt. But my point is being missed.

Of course it is not “official” until it is publically announced from the source. Just because news isn’t public or “official” (to you) doesn’t make it not true.

Just because I was told in advance does not make it false. It is official to me.

Here’s an example:

I don’t follow sports, and even if you don’t, I’m sure you heard; there was wait and suspense recently wondering what team LeBron James would choose to play for.

On July 8, 2010, James announced live on ESP that he will be playing for the Miami Heat. So at that time, it became “official”.

But his family and friends knew beforehand because he had his mind made up before July 8th. You tell people you're close with. So, if you or I knew one of his family or friends and they told us, that would be what is called “inside information”. Just because we knew beforehand doesn’t make it speculation. It’s called “advance info”. Just because it’s not official doesn’t mean its not true.

I just sent an e-mail to Paramount asking for an exchange. I don't expect a response anytime soon, but that's why I'm hoping they do an in-store exchange, as well.

No, that would be called "heresay", any good reporter would not say they had inside information in your example. Inside information would be if James, or one of his lawyers, or one of his agents had passed the information on to someone on the outside. Inside information comes from a party directly involved in a situation. Relatives and friends sometimes just talk because they can.

As for the info being right or wrong it isn't a factor, even a blind bird finds a worm once in a while...

Will there be a sticker placed on the packaging now saying "improved transfer" or will we just have to take a gamble on this?

Bill Hunt just posted

Quote:
As far as spotting the new Gladiator Blu-ray in stores, it appears the only difference on the packaging is this: On the back of the slipcase and disc cover insert, there's a little white Paramount logo on the bottom right corner. Right above that on the ORIGINAL Blu-ray are the words "2-DISC SET". On the NEW Blu-ray, those words are missing. That's it. The new disc IS of course still a 2-disc set, so no worries. ......

Further information, Digital Bits along with his view on the quality of the new release

Why all the arguing? I have no inside information. All I know is (a) the Technicolor exchange program for SPR required you to mail the original disc back, while (b) the retailer exchange program for SPR (edit: which ALSO required the original disc) isn't likely to happen with Gladiator as it's been too long since its release.

Based on that, until we have official information from Paramount, it's safest to assume you'll have to return the old disc to get the new one; if the official release says otherwise, so much the better. Expect the worst, but hope for the best...

Also, Bill Hunt's latest post says he's seen the new transfer, and it's "SPECTACULAR" (his word, his all-caps). No new news on the exchange program, though he suggests BD reviewers keep the old disc along with the new one to show WHY we should care about proper transfers. However, he does mention the SLIGHT packaging difference between old and new editions:

Rest assured, I'll double-check with the studio later today to make SURE that's the tell. Since I have a copy of the new disc in hand, I'm going to assume the studio will start sending them out to those requesting replacement copies any day. And I'd expect them to start appearing in stores over the next few weeks.
(I'm sure the "any day" statement is his speculation, NOT anything official.)

So, here's my question: Should I call the Paramount number or just let my e-mail be the way I get an exchange?

If you've got an email in to them I would just sit and wait. There's nothing new currently. I imagine in the next week(s) or so they'll open it up and we can call back at that point if they haven't called us and get it going.

The new release of Gladiator will have the bar code within a yellow box as differentiation.

Actually it would be called "hearsay," but in his example hearsay can still be "insider information."

.......and reputable reporters use info like that all the time. How many times have you heard/read a news story where the reporter says something along the lines of a source inside (place government/private entity here) told us yada yada yada?

Its funny to me that when someone on these forums makes an educated guess about how things are gonna go down (we do have the example of how PHV handles recalls/exchanges) that doesn't gel with what ppl hope will happen (they send me a disc, and I don't have to do anything), they get crapped on.
