I went ahead and called just to be safe (they do ask you to write your phone number, so they COULD cross-reference it to your call), then put my disc in a leftover padded envelope from the Hastings after-Xmas 40%-off sale, put my own label over Hastings', and took it directly to the main postal distribution center (open till 8PM) to get it off today. They charged me $1.39 as a first-class parcel--and I think that's just because I told the clerk it contained an optical disc; should have been a large envelope for $1.05. (No delivery confirmation, Priority Mail, or anything like that.)

I did scan the note (with NA number written down) and disc, along with the postal receipt; should be close enough in case they say they never got it.

Did they ask anyone for their name/number? They didn't ask me. They said to send the disc to the previously listed address with my name, address and phone number.

It was obvious that all responses and statements were scripted. The girl I spoke to was very nice, but she repeated (verbatim) the "if you prefer the edition without EE and DNR..." script. The same thing we've all read.

I had a hell of a time locating that NA number on my disc. I couldn't find it right away and she started reading me off the address to send it to anyway. Once I found it and read it to her, she could have cared less. I could tell she just wanted to get me off of the phone to take the next call.

I think the whole e-mail and (toll) phone number from last week was just so Paramount could get a head-count of what they were about to deal with.

I'm happy that they're 'righting' a wrong.

Lucas is an extreme case, but I do not always believe that what directors create years after fact represents what they had in mind all along.
But we're not talking about that kind of gross revision...you've created an apples and oranges argument here. There is only one alleged change on the table, to the color temperature--the core film is as it's always been. Why not concede Ridley Scott has not committed an atrocity here by, and has a defensible right to, "lock in" his final approved look for the film's cinematography?

I just now noticed that the Extended Version was included with the Disc one. I have been *****ing about this for months, and it was included the whole time!

Gonna call to get the new disc.

I called tonight, and the lady I got was actually really nice. I asked about the envelope, and they don't care if the disc shows up broke. They just want the disc as proof that you bought it. Gonna grab a standard padded envelope and throw in some cardboard. Easy.

The lady I called was awkwardly nice and giggled at just about everything I said. It got pretty weird after a while.

I never claimed Scott had committed an atrocity, and in fact have already stated that this is not a question of right or wrong. Of course Scott can change the colors if he wants; all I have ever claimed is that people who do not like the colors should be able to continue to discuss them. Furthermore, I only mentioned Lucas' changes to counter the director-always-knows-best mindset, not to equate those changes with Scott's new color timing, so I never formed an "apples and oranges" argument.

I called and they basically read me a script about "preferring the disc without Edge Enhancement and DNR . . . blah, blah, blah.” The guy asked I confirm my UPC code was white (mine was gone since I used it for the $10 mail-in rebates, but I knew it was white), and a NA number on the readable disc side near the spindle.

Once he confirmed I had the old disc he provided me with the address. They are not going to pay for shipping and that includes return shipping. I'll be putting a pre-paid envelope addressed to me inside the package I send to them. This way they’ll be able to send me the new disc. I am going to do Delivery Confirmation so I know they received my disc and I’ll scan the disc itself before I send it (I like keeping records).

Thanks alot man, that first number with the creepy voicemail never responded. I've watched Braveheart a few times since last sept. but have never brought myself to watch Gladiator because of all the dnr issues ect., but now finally Paramount is offering a proper release. I'll be putting it in the mail today, I love this place

Dont throw in any cardboard, then. That'll only raise your shipping cost.

They will and are paying for return shipping though. Why'd you write that? You seriously put in your own return, pre-paid envelope?
The only reason for doing that would be if you want your own tracking number. Otherwise, there's no need.

The guy said they're not paying for return shipping. I specifically asked him that, hmm...

Edit: I haven't sent the disc out yet, so your saying to just send the disc without an envelope inside?

I just called back and double checked. The lady told me no do not send a return envelope, they are paying for the cost of shipping back to you. She said just to put your name and address on a slip of paper inside package with disc.

I think you're mis-representing the word "return"

YOU have to return YOUR EE disc at your own cost.

You DO NOT have to provide them with a pre-paid envelope. They will pay shipping of the new one to be returned to you.

Fair enough...I guess I understand better (if, of course, don't agree)...so are you keeping the color timing you prefer with the god-awful EE and DNR or dealing with the warmer color temperature of the new release to get the quantum improvements in grain structure and fine detail? Because if you're going to argue that it's worth sticking with the manipulations of the prior release just to keep it's color scheme, I'm gonna have a hard time letting that opinion go unchallenged, LOL!

Lol! No; I would not ague that: overall the new release is by far the better of the two. I shall keep my three-disc DVD set and HDTV version, with which I am very happy. Enjoy the Blu-ray, Filmmaker. I hope you manage to exchange your copy of the old release swiftly.
