An interesting piece of info from Bill Hunt:

Quote:
From The Digital Bits:

In other news this afternoon, a couple of Bits readers over the weekend have reported to us that they've found the new remastered Gladiator Blu-ray in their local Best Buy stores. Interestingly, there was no yellow UPC, but as I originally reported (and as was the case on my copy), the new disc was missing the words "2-DISC SET" over the Paramount logo on the bottom right of the back of the package. Seeing this, two readers took a chance on it and purchased the disc. Upon getting it home and comparing it to their original copy, sure enough it was the new transfer which blew them away. So just be aware that it's starting to trickle out there. Thanks to Bits readers Frank C. and Jim L. for reporting in! One side note to this, I've personally enjoyed the new Gladiator Blu-ray transfer so much that on Friday night I ended up watching the ENTIRE extended edition of the film - something I couldn't make myself to do with the original Blu-ray. I think you guys are really going to appreciate it.

That is interesting news. I did manage to watch the entire Extended Edition on the original release, as it was my first time ever watching the film. I guess this new master really is much better, so I'm pretty excited to see it. Funny how they just slipped that into stores without telling anyone. I guess they had a reason for asking what color UPC we had.

According to what Bill Hunt reported (his remastered copy is missing it) and what some readers sent in, yes. Although he was told by the studio that there would be yellow UPC's to differentiate them, but those haven't been seen yet.

Yes, the "2-Disc Set" is not there on the remaster. My Best Buy and Frys both had copies of BOTH the old edition AND the new one, so I can confirm that this is how to tell them apart.

Have you verified it's the new transfer yet?

Yep. It was never super crisp to begin with, but it looks pretty amazing considering.

Same here, sent them an email and heard nothing back. Oh well, just sending them my disc, screw the phone call. In a few weeks I can finally watch it (had it since week one).

Hi,

could you tell me which BestBuy and Fry's have the remastered version in stock?
I am currently in LA and would like to pick it up.
Thanks.

Since I'm currently deployed, I had my awesome wife call for me and she has mailed out the old disc today. They said processing will be 2 weeks. I think Paramount did us right on this one by giving us the remastered version for free.

Woodland Hills... Frys only had 1 remaster and 3 copies of the old edition, but the Best Buy had 4 more remastered copies.

ANybody knows if it's the same way to discern the editions in Canada?

Just got mine shipped out this morning. I would be really careful if you got a different address than most posted- I got the same 801464 PO Box.

Only cost me $1.22, and while that obviously comes out of our pockets, I'm really glad there's a replacement/swap program in place. I was so sure they weren't going to do that. Those who're complaining about the cost of shipping seriously need to get over it. Be glad there is an option- the other option is that you're either stuck with it or you go pay full price for the remaster.
