The first is the old disc, the second is the new remastered disc. If you look at the bottom right you can see the text above the Paramount logi is not on the second copy.

Top disc is the remastered version.

And again, the number on the disc is NA13081B1, so take that for what you will.
Yep, that is what my Remaster looks. I think we all owe you a thanks for making this post.

Thanks Mike! My disc matches the grey one! I must have the re-mastered disc based on all the feedback. I also felt I had it late yesterday when I saw a fine layer of grain, more visible in darker scenes, through the first fifteen minutes I watched last night. I will now watch the entire thing tonight!

Thanks again for taking the time to post these photos!

My disc is the same as the bottom one, light grey, but it is definitely Remastered (and has the R2 number on the back of the disc)

the previous poster said the top disc in his pic was the remastered one...the dark grey one.

Are you sure it is remastered? The "R2" number is meaningless.

Based on the PQ, Im absolutely positive.

And I also bought my copy in a case with no top security sticker, and with the both the slipcover AND the paper insert missing the "2 disc set" in the lower right hand corner.

Could Paramount have two different runs of the re-mastered copy?

Talk about making things confusing for the consumer. Thanks Paramount!

I own the originally distributed release of this (EE + DNR). I went to my local BB last night and they had 2 left, one with and one without the '2-Disc Set' identifier above the Paramount logo. I purchased the one without.

All the other tell-tale signs of the remaster were there: no security tape, NA# ending in R2 as opposed to R1, etc.

Both Disc 1's I have are the same color (not different shades of gray).

MY QUESTION (and what concerns me) is that the 'remastered' case contained the $10 off insert that expired 6/30/10. Why would Paramount include this old/expired insert in something that was pressed and distributed within the past week??? Anyone else see this in their copies???

It makes 0 sense for there to be multiple pressings of the remastered disc this early, but whatever.

That is exactly how my copy was.

And I remember a few other people earlier in the thread got the same copies, as well as Light Grey discs.

Mine has blue Notice insert like the one in Mike's photo. My original Braveheart I purchased when it was released has the $10 off insert.

Actually, this makes sense. My remastered copy DOES NOT have the $10 off insert, and a dark grey disc.

It seems like there may have been remastered copies out for some time, but we weren't looking for them. Now there is a new press, and they changed up (and cheapened) the disc art and took out the insert.

The moral of the story is that all the remastered copies thus far don't say "2-Disc Set" above the Paramount logo on the back.

And we all thought it would be easy...

It's sounding more and more like Paramount has two runs of the re-mastered copy. Why they would do that is beyond me.

Uh-oh. Now I'm really concerned since I asked the question only b/c unlike DRS, I honestly DID NOT observe the difference to the degree shown in the comparison shots posted throughout this thread when I screened them back-to-back.

Sorry to potentially add more kindling to the confusion fire, but Paramount really should have made this clearer. Their pride in not wanting to admit that a more desirable product is being distributed is disgraceful.

That makes the most logical sense and that was my train of thought as well. It's like Paramount knew they goofed, re-mastered it in a covert manner, and when pressured, finally started this program. If you read their press release on the exchange program they still claim the original release is good and the reduced DNR is a preference. Sounds like some high level executives there trying to save their butts.

Just another thought on this topic based on the time I've spent on this issue. Maybe we should bill Paramount for our time. LOL

Maybe the light grey discs are the ones with NAXXXR2 indicator and the dark grey ones do not have the NAXXXR2 marking. Does anyone have a dark grey disc with the NAXXXR2 marking like Mike's photo?

Ha, agreed. That press release was hilarious.

ok i think I found a DEFINITIVE way to know you are getting the new master without opening it. this applies to best buy for sure, maybe others.

1. no 2-disc set over paramount logo on slip and case
2. no security tape on top
3. MOST IMPORTANT: Shrink-wrap is the stretched melted-shut type, NOT the fold type
4. this version probably has the expired 10$ sticker on it/and a fresh, undented/undusty slipcover

THIS IS THE SERIAL R2, LIGht grey disc version

i went to a best buy today in atlanta to get my brother the new master (i'm from another state where i got my R2 with those same indicators) and they had THREE different versions of the disc there. the old one with 2-disc and security tape, the newest one i just described, AND one that didn't have the 2-disc/security tape OR the coupon on it, and it had folded shrinkwrap. perhaps this is the B1 version without R1 or R2 at the end, or perhaps it is and old version in a semi new packaging (or maybe it's another R2 version as well??)...if you get that version as far as i know you're playing your chances....unless someone here can verify its contents if they had a "folded" shrinkwrap version. you would think that is the newest because it didn't have the expired coupon, but it was placed almost in the back of the stack, with only the security tape version behind it (the R2s with the coupon/fresh slipcover on it were in front). but yeah it seems all the ones with the indicators i described are certainly the new transfer R2 pressing.
