Yes, I forgot, he asked me also the number and I gave it to him the only thing I remember was that ends in 1, along with the color.

Default Amazon says they're selling the remastered version of Gladiator

Yesterday I emailed Amazon and asked them if they're selling the remastered version of Gladiator. Here's their reply to me:

Quote:
Hello,

I checked with our fulfillment centers and confirm that this Blu-ray DVD "Gladiator (Sapphire Series)" which is currently being sold in our website is remastered version that Paramount is distributing and not the older version.

If you need any further assistance in this regard, we kindly request you to contact us using the below help link:

http://www.amazon.com/help

I hope this information helps!

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Best regards,

Kethar B.

Your Name:ScuseMe
Comments:I would like to know if the Gladiator blu-ray disc you are selling is the remastered version that Paramount is distributing via exchange program for all current owners of this title.

I would like to order the Gladiator blu-ray, but I don't want to get the bad version that Paramount is correcting with their replacement plan. Are you now selling the new version? BestBuy and other stores are selling the new copies now.

Thanks.

So, I'm going to order Gladiator and see if it's really the remastered version. If it's not, they should allow me to return it as defective, since in my opinion, the old version is just that.

I agree it's not a huge deal but Paramount is where the buck stops on this one. If they would just put out quality products in the beginning people would be happy and the company would benefit. If they put out more like Gladiator's first go round I will cease from ever buying a catalog title from them again so it really behooves them to just practice good business habits. Ultimately its Paramounts fault no matter how crazy some of the consumers got about it.
Once again...

Paramount did not produce the original Blu-ray Disc release or even this new remastered release. This was all Universal's work as they had the original elements.

Paramount also did not "thumb their nose" because they did not have the elements to produce a better version. Paramount basically needed to wait for Universal and Scott Free to complete their work. Sadly, with a lot of mutli-company productions/distributions, releases like this will and have happened.

Anchor Bay searched for better elements for Army of Darkness' "director's cut" and was unable to locate proper elements for the "extended" footage. AB turned to Bruce Campbell and his personal beta tapes of the footage. One year later, MGM Hong Kong debuts a slightly longer version of the "director's cut" created from film elements in their possession.

Wait, it gets better, Optimum is ready to release Army of Darkness on Blu-ray Disc in the UK and obtains a license to include MGM's version of the director's cut. MGM provides them not with the elements to produce their own HD version but rather the SD master used to produce the DVD. Leaving Optimum with no choice but to include an SD version of the director's cut.

The same thing happened with Gladiator. True, Paramount/Dreamworks is the last stop in the US and Canada, but what could Paramount/Dreamworks do? Refuse to distribute the film on Blu-ray Disc? Force Universal to region code their releases (as Disney did with Step Up) until Paramount/Dreamworks could eventually get the elements?

There is one other possibility, Universal could have been selfish and refused to provide the new remastered version to Paramount/Dreamworks. Leaving Universal as the only source for a better version which also means people would have to pay import pricing.

Now, if you still want to blame Paramount/Dreamworks, go ahead. But just realize that for consumers unhappy with the DNR/EE version, you can get a replacement free of charge. Try doing that with Disney's Gangs of New York.

Well put Steve Dave, I am not happy with the first release of Gladiator (now that my eyes are getting more fine tuned, and DNR is a bit easier for me to notice) but I am using the exchange program that they have set up, and didn't really have to. Yeah, it cost me 2 bucks for the envelope and shipping, but oh well, I got the movie on sale anyway. There are worse things that I coulda spent the money on...

Oh keep rubbing it in people. I sent in my disc before even knowing the remastered version was already in stores. Now I'm forced to wait impatiently for my replacement to arrive (or not) in the mail.

For what it's worth, I finally received a return phone call from Paramount concerning the email I sent a few weeks ago...

At least they are responding.

I sent my defective disc in weekend before last, hopefully it will arrive soon. I hate playing the waiting game!

I don't mind waiting a few weeks as long as I get it. The wait is worth it for less than $2 in shipping.

+1 I really wanna see the new transfer, but getting Gangs of New York yesterday for $13.00 plus all of my other BD's will tide me over for a couple weeks until my Gladiator gets returned... its already been away from home for a week now

I sent mine off the Saturday before last so I am assuming they received it by now and it's in process.

There's a new Gladiator page for the Remastered Version now HERE.

You can post your reviews now.

On a side note, I requested this new movie page a couple hours ago, coincidence? You're welcome.
