Why a movie that's not very old would look like this is beyond me. I have almost 300 blus so I know what I'm looking at.
Well you are the first person I have heard that has complained about the quality of this new transfer. I don't understand why the copies would be any different but i guess it's possible..

Thank you. Should we start a new thread just for those expecting a replacement copy of "Gladiator" from Paramount? I think this discussion involving the discovery of "in store" copies should be separated from those of us waiting for a replacement.

Or at least sticky the info on what to look for on the remastered disc, so we don't have to be inundated with the same questions and answers that have been asked/ answered 5-6 pages ago

I know and it sucks. It was the only remastered (going by all the known ways of telling) copy they had. Had three of the original version so cant even return it yet for another remastered copy. As I posted yesterday, I would like to hear from some folks who can check theirs in slo mo where it's of course much easier to see these "defects" as the pop up which is very frequently on my copy.

There seems to be too much information now and it's starting to get confusing.

As long as the "2-Disc Set" is missing, it's definitely the remastered version?

I wouldn't say definitely but yes that is presumably the remastered copy. Mine didn't have the security tape on the top edge of the movie case either.

See my post #4910 two pages back and theres a small time range there. Watch there in slo mo on the extended version. There's an arched wall in the background that's a little darker than the rest of the scene so what i'm seeing is pretty easily spotted. Thanx for your help.

I watched that section and there was some minor noise, however not something I would call distracting. They were only slightly larger than the grain, and the only reason they are noticeable in that scene is because of the very dark background.

Is this strange to you? Film is a physical medium that collects dust and scratches...

Alaska's actually right. I haven't watched the entire blu ray but I've watched an hour or so of it. And while the remaster is strikingly beautiful, especially compared to the old master, there are specs of dirt and scratches on the print.

Now, I had to be right up on the television to see them. But, there are indeed there. It absolutely DOES NOT distract this viewer from watching this film on Blu Ray, but the eyes don't deceive.

Again, fabulous transfer, if not exactly perfect.

Appreciate the info. What size is your TV? My experience was most defintely distracting. Not just noise but when slowed down, some of it was actually scratches. And that scene was not the worst I saw. About middle of the road compared with other parts of the film.

Uh, yeah it is when it's this prevalent on a movie that's not that old and when I haven't seen it like this in almost three years and almost three hundred blus viewed.

50" Pioneer Kuro Elite. I was sitting within a couple of feet to notice the noise you mentioned.

If it's that noticeable, I would suggest checking your sharpness settings. You could be making it worse.

How can someone even buy this online???

And is this german release 10th anniversary edition the remastered version

None of this is visable on my copy, maybe need your eyes checked out I watch on a 60" Kuro.

They are definitely there. They appeared in the very first screenshots online and have continued to show up in many. I'll take a few scratches over the DNR and EE any day. Have a look at this screen cap from member Thunderbolt8 at AVSForum, it clearly shows dust/scratches:
  • Just to the right of the far left soldier's nose
  • On the top of the right gate of the entry into the arena
  • On the railing below the senators
