Stopped by my local (Bowie, MD) Wal Mart and they had 3 or 4 yellow UPC'ed copies. (Best Buy had none... isn't it weird that the Wal Mart stock seems to be moving faster and they're the first to get it?) $26 is still a bit steep, though. Think I'll wait a bit.

Here's an idea. Has anyone tried buying from Amazon (or wherever's cheapest), and if they don't get the yellow UPC, buy one from Wal Mart and then return the Amazon one to Wal Mart, so that the net effect is getting a yellow UPC for Amazon's price?

$26 bucks is steep. So glad I bought the old version for 10 bucks on black friday and then was able to trade it for the new one.

$26 for the original Blu-ray is steep. $26 for the remastered Blu-ray is nothing. Seeing the remastered Gladiator Blu-ray for the first time...Priceless. (couldn't help it)

For being into a fairly expensive hobby of collecting movies, I've noticed a lot of you are pretty...how do I put this kindly?....cheap.

being frugal is a smart thing, not spending money when you don't have to is what keeps people from wasting resources

This coming from someone with around 1000 Blu-rays. I doubt I even like that many movies. At least not enough to feel the need to own on Blu-ray. No offense.

that's kinda my point, I'd never have close to a 1000 blu's if I was spending $26 a blu, my average is just below $9 right now for my blus, thus I'm getting 3x the amount of blu's per same dollar

But what's more frugal: Buying only a few Blu-rays here and there for movies you really want no matter the cost or buying whatever cheap movie you come across just to build your collection? I believe in doing the former.

Neither, both are wasteful, there's a tone of titles I could add to my collection just because they're cheap, but I don't have them. I buy what I like, but I pay only what I want to spend. plus I shop pawn shops a TON, so I can get whatever I like 5-$8 most of the time (new releases included). when you have over 10,000 DVD's a grand of blu's is nothing , lol, basically my buying power is triple that of someone who just resigns themselves to paying the full price. which is much more wastedful IMO. paying more than you half to. Basically it's not the amount of blu's that matter, that's up to how many movies a person likes enough to purchase. it's how much leverage your dollar per blu is.

Buying more movies than you can feasibly watch seems far more wasteful, but that's just me. I get more out of the movies I spend money on. If I don't plan to watch a certain movie more than once, I don't bother buying it.

Okay, lets stop this little feud, we've gone way off topic. I'm sorry I started it.

Gladiator's great, isn't it?

lol, I agree with you there, the new transfer is every bit as beautiful as Braveheart is

Has anyone dug into the extras? I've been considering watching all of the supplements, but there is so much that I don't know where to start and if it is worth it.

Anyone knows if there's an online retailer that has the remastered one, that ships to Canada? I haven't been very lucky trying to find one at Future Shop or Walmart. It's taking a while to get over here, it seems...

The Crowe/Scott commentary track is a good one. Scott seems to get a bit annoyed at Crowe pointing out the goofs in the film..LOL. But you can tell their respect for each other is great and they are proud of the movie. Crowe is also pretty candid..had some not very flattering things to say about Oliver Reed.

The long "making of" doc on the 2nd disc is also worth a watch.

I took my opened disc back to Walmart without a receipt and they exchanged it for a new copy. They did unwrap the new copy before they gave it to me, but I believe it is the remastered version as it is missing the "2 Disc Set" above the Paramount logo on the case and the # on the mirror band of the disc ends in R2.
I hope that is correct. I bought a copy at Best Buy the other day. No "2-disc Set" text above the logo on the actual case cover. It was new stock because there was no security tag.

But I had read some posts before saying their Disc 1 was a different shaded gray than the previous release. I just opened mine and it looks like the same gray as disc 2 and from the Braveheart set. It's the lighter shade.

But my disc 1 ends in R2, so I hope it's the remastered set. I never watched the original release, so I can't compare anything.

Default Walmart Site to Store appeared to work - hopefully?

Just got mine yesterday after ordering at walmart.com doing "site to store." Took exactly 1 week, and was $22.86 plus tax (no shipping). My version has a white UPC, no "2 Disc Set" on the slipcover OR case, and the "$10 Rebate" sticker on the front. I am hoping this is the remastered version as I have watched neither, patiently holding out....

BTW, the store had several copies on the shelf...one with the yellow UPC and "2 Disc Set" on the inside case only (not the slipcover), and several copies with white UPC identical to my version but NO $10 Rebate.

Before I crack the seal, do I have the remastered version???? Anyone? Bueller? Yes I read the post about the numbers on the disc - but if not correct it would be too late....

That'll be it! I got one from Walmart from the shelf, same description as you said..its the remastered one and I had the other one to compare...and FYI if you have been following all the Gladiator post, there's another thread too, you probably won't ask this question

Default ID'ing Remastered version in stores

Thanks to roxyv for pointing to the other Gladiator thread. Here's a simple answer - pretty simple:

There are two ways to check for the 4k remastered version:

1. Look at the back of the artwork. Are the words "2-Disc Set" missing above the Paramount logo? If yes, 4k remastered version. If no, DNR/EE version.

OR

2. Look at the UPC. Is it yellow? If yes, 4k remastered version. If no, DNR/EE version.

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone knows which version Amazon.com sends when I place an order of Gladiator?

I don't live in the U.S., so I have to order online, but I want to make sure that I'd get the remastered version.
