it's not yet clear if they are shipping the remasterd one, some members here have been saying that it is still the crappy one, and amazon said they wont know for they have several shipping outlets (and they have the same UPC number) so I probably would wait and I don't know how long until they run out of stock of the old ones or order and hope for the best

I can't be the only one annoyed by his review scores for most movies. Apparantly even "Chloe" is the better movie according to him....

Gladiator is still one of the best films of the last decade. It's easily worth a 10/10.

i'm ready to buy this now that the remastering has been done and everyone is pleased with it. i do have a question, when they re-released private ryan, it had a yellow marker so you would know it was the "corrected, re-released" version, how do you know which version of gladiator you are buying if you walk in a store or buy it online?

sorry if this has been discussed already, i just saw the updated review and saw that the video had been done "properly"!

You could always go back a few pages or even just read the review to find out. There is even a picture under the screenshots.

for anyone else who doesn't already know how tell which is the old version and which is the new version and doesn't want to be told to go look back through postings or look through a review like i was (mind you I said please and thank you asking for help which of course i didn't actually get) here is your answer copied straight from the source:

"However, new copies aren't easily identified from older pressings at-a-glance. Buyers will need to look at the back cover's bottom right-hand corner for a Paramount logo, and if the words "2-DISC SET" are present, that's the old copy; the new versions do not contain the "2-DISC SET" lettering. "

sometimes when people ask for help, it doesn't hurt to simply give them the answer (when you obviously knew what the answer was and I said that i did not) helping them and not being (or think your being) clever in your response.

i hope posting the actual answer will avoid others getting the same "smart-assed" response that i got.

Just picked my copy up from best buy yesterday. It didn't have the "2 disc set" lettering on the case or slipcover and it didn't have any security tape on the top. I'm assuming this is the remastered version so thanks to everyone here who posted the differences in the packaging! I would never have figured that one out lol

Just picked one up at Wal-Mart and it DOES say 2-disc Set but is has a yellow UPC.

Don't worry about it. I picked up my copy from Wal-mart today and it has the yellow UPC. Can't wait to watch this tonight.

This method could take a while but you could order the movie, then if you get the first release you can contact Paramount and get a replacement for the new remastered edition. I understand the company is doing such a thing...

I couldn't care less about film reviews, i just look PQ & AQ, since thats more less objective

I'd say look for either, they're probably both only on the re-pressing, glad to know there's 2 clues though.

Ok - this is still confusing....so I should only buy a copy if it meets BOTH criteria:
1) Missing words "2 DISC SET"
2) Yellow UPC?

Has anyone who has gotten one with the words still there, but a yellow UPC been able to tell if it's the repressing?

What's your point? Chloe is the better movie..better acted, better filmed and better directed. Sorry. Just because a movie like Gladiator is more popular doesn't make it a better movie.
