This is just goes to show that you don't understand how this process works. I'm not blaming you or attacking you for not having that information. This is part of the problem with many of the folks who are passing judgment however.

Well maybe you can enlighten us.

Do you own an iPod? Would you complain to Apple or Foxconn if you have an issue with the product?

I have zero interest in wasting my time on the AVS crowd. They lost the respect of those in the industry and in the know long, long ago.

I don't think I own either of these on DVD, so I'll buy them regardless of any praise or shots they may take. I'm just waiting for the price to drop significantly.

It was stated before that it was a fast moving scene, and those two shots aren't the exact same frame.

Those shots aren't even from the same frame.

Come on, do you think this guy:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...92&postcount=1

would go through all the trouble of posting like 40 screenshots if they were not the same frame?? Why waste the time?

The same scene was moving just as fast on the other screenshots from 3 other sources. Why are the arrows and fireball present in the other shots? Why is the fireball in the bluray shot seemingly partially transparent? Why are the arrows completely gone?

Even if the same frame wasn't used in the bluray shot, the arrows should be still be visible, just in a position that is a little before or after the position of the arrows in the other frames, depending on which frame was used. This is not the case, the arrows are invisible. Where did they go? Are they going to appear/disappear as they fly through the air? That would be an amazing feat.

I can understand you being skeptical, I usually am too. But in this case, I really think that the bluray is missing those arrows and fireball. It is a bummer for sure.

I'm not overly critical, but looking at several SC I am very concerned. If they are guilty, it is a travesty they did not put the effort into Gladiator that it deserves, and a lie to imply it is a superior transfer by labeling it "Sapphire Series". I will wait for the reviews to make my final judgement, and rent first at the very least. I am of fan of movies about Rome. While I am a fan of Gladiator, I am a bigger fan of HBO's Rome and Ben Hur. I hope the studios put their absolute best efforts into Ben Hur and Rome, and I'll be a very happy guy.

I think I've seen both once.
Well, I'm sure about 'Gladiator', but 'Braveheart' maybe twice or thrice...
But they are great films period. Great for anyone to enjoy in HD.

But will this "Sapphire"-deal come with some kind of ugly special series-styled boxes or whatever?
cause I saw there are also "normal" versions coming out or something.

They are. One can actually see where the original arrows were in a few spots where the descratch/clean up filter left some residual data.

If they are not the same frame as you claim, can you please post the Blu-Ray screenshot from the same frame as the HDTV broadcast version that clearly show the same number of arrows and show the fireball in it's exact same state? Or at least give us the exact time on the disc where we can see the same number of arrows so we can pause the BD movie and see it for ourself?

No.

You wanna know why? Because I don't have it, because it's not friggin released yet!

You people seriously need to quit whining and *****ing about a product that's not even on shelves yet, by lambasting random screenshots taken out of context, that may or may not represent what the movie looks like in motion.

Removing real world objects in the image is just crazy to me.

How active is that filter? Does it just smear the surrounding background in an attempt to remove the scratch?

Imagine what else could go missing if it were perceived as a "scratch".

What if in a movie someone is supposed to have a ketchup stain on their shirt, but the filter smears out the stain with the background of the shirt, thereby "deleting" the ketchup stain.

How stupid would the scene be if the person knew they spilled ketchup on their shirt and looks down at the stain but no stain is present.

Yes they are.

..

Look at the flame at the bottom left. It has the exact same shape.

They match perfectly - except for the fireball and arrows, that is.

Interestingly, the three arrows nearer the catapult weren't erased.

WHoa whoa whoa, what do mean "you people"??

Anyway, what happens when people watch the same bluray scene upon release, and lo and behold, the arrows and flame turn "invisible" as shown in the screenshots?

All signs point to an aggressive image manipulation tool "correcting" the arrows and thereby deleting them from the frame.

What if in the DVD you can see a continuous stream of movement for the arrows but in the bluray they disappear/reappear as the fly along their parabolic path? Explain away...
