At the beginning of the movie there are some arrows and fireballs which dissappear, but the easiest to notice is perhaps the edge enhancement during the final fight sequence. You should be able to see halos surrounding the soldiers who form the circle around the two fighting. This and many other things are corrected with the new disc.

Does anyone know if Amazon is shipping out the remastered copies yet? Or have they not yet depleted their stock enough?

Maybe you shouldn't be allowed to touch a blu ray since you can't tell crap quality anyways! Joking aside those two pics that follow show what a world of difference the quality is.

I saw the yellow UPC edition at Best Buy yesterday but held off because of the 27 dollar price tag. I really want to order from Amazon but I have no confidence I'll get the new version.

Had a question. Are there differences in the actual discs? I rented the movie from blockbuster's mail order service and wanted to know whether I had the older or newer version. My father said the colors looked different, which made me wonder if maybe this wasn't a remastered edition after all.

A few members have previously contacted Amazon a couple of pages back and at this time customer service can not promise you will get the new copy since they are not in direct contact with the distribution center.

Don't know why we don't have comparisons up for people to use when making sure they got the right copy I guess I'll do it

Bottom RIGHT where it says "2-Disk Set" if you have that you have the old version if you don't, guess what you are special and have the remastered

UNLESS the UPC is yellow and "2-Disc Set" is printed there, in which case you also have the remastered version...

It is not defective, after all, so the store will not take it back. I did have the older DNRed blu ray, and it was very average PQ (sold it). If the new one is really good, the difference would be obvious. to be fair, I havent seen the new one (yet). But why would I knowingly buy the old one again?
I see your point. I guess if you don't have both versions, it is hard to compare. Those screenshots of the end battle are astounding. I haven't even seen the remaster because I won't be home until late Oct. Now I'm dying to watch it because of those pics.

Talking Got the REMASTER!!

>>To recap , "old" lady retired school teacher. MAJOR "Gladiator" fan!! Swear I have every incarnation of this movie possible, starting with the VHS and including both soundtrack CD's.

Have 2009 BD. With rebates, paid $7.99. Watched it once. Wasn't that "upset" as many were with pq. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

Live in small town in MN. Not many shopping choices. Basically Target & BB. Prefer Target. They had two copies of BD. One with 2 disc over Paramount logo. One without. No white security tape. $10 rebate sticker on front has expired.

Even though it was (ahem) "pricey," I was determined to see IF, in fact, it was the remaster and IF it looked better.

BTW, there ARE teeny weeny itsy bitsy numbers (I had to use a small LCD flashlight and reading glasses OVER my regular glasses to see them! ) on the back of the main feature disc (surrounding the inner hole) that DO say "B1R2" Last four digits of longer number.

Put in "old" BD first. Watched through first battle scene (love that scene anyway. Cranked the music. ) and noticed again that the flaming arrows did seem a little sparce.

Then put in the REMASTER. OMG! The difference in PQ is incredible!!! The detail is amazing. And I'm no huge "techie" that buys according to "demo" quality, etc. I live alone. My dogs don't care. HA!

But this, my fellow BD lovers, is worth it, IMO, if you are a fan of "Gladiator." Really. And remember, I kinda' liked the first one.

'Course as I was trying to explain to the guys in the electronic department at Target, Paramount has not admitted that the first pressing was "defective." So they want to sell them. Therefore they're not going to release the "remaster" with some big huge label across the front that announces it's better. Nope. Just these really small, tiny details that you have to look for.

And I just went on the fact that my copy did NOT have "2 disc" on either the slipcover OR the actual disc. Nor did it have the white security tape.

I say get it if you can. The PQ is astounding. "Demo," IMO. - AJ

I'm having a meeting with Luke later today on Hoth. If he listens to me, then I'll make sure he tucks a copy of the remastered Gladiator in his stuff. Just do a little poking around if you find him.

Sincerely,
Ben

True, thats how I knew my SPR was the correct version... I hadn't seen any Yellow at my Bestbuy when I was trying to decide to buy.

The label side of the remastered disc is a darker shade of grey than the non-remastered one, and also has white lettering, as opposed to silver on the non-remastered.

No it doesnt. The remastered one is still a ONE COLOR SILKSCREEN. There is no white. That would make it TWO COLOR.

The remastered one sent from PHE has silver type (called "drop out type", exposing the natural silver of the disc) just like "disc two"

Is it me, or does the new superior remaster have a new "color timing" as well as the DNR being removed?

It does. It takes on a much more "golden" hue most of the time. I kind of like how it looks for most scenes, but the increased saturation can be a bit jarring to those who remember how it used to look. Whether or not this is more accurate to the theatrical, I can't say with any certainty.

Hmmm... I'll have to check again when I get home tonight, but I could swear in comparing the 2 discs (remaster vs original) that the letters were white on the remaster. I remember reading this from other posters as well--could it be that the discs in the remastered versions in stores (i.e., not sent directly from PHE) are this way?
