OK, I have no idea what version Amazon just sent me... It has a Yellow UPC.... but "2-Disc Set" on the back cover of the case; however, it is lacking "2-Disc Set" on the slip cover. WTF?!?!

I am pretty pissed about this.

thanks. Perhaps I was being hyperbolic, but I was annoyed. Weird, b/c bluray.com makes a big deal in the remastered review about the "Two-Disc Set" being as important as the Yellow UPC. I was confused.

Why don't you just put it on your player and FIND OUT??????

Man, I can't believe people are still going on and on about then when it's CLEARLY evident if you take 5 seconds and just look at the video.

aox,

You have the remasteed version. End of story.

Not enough for skeptics, let me 'splain:

1. All English covers indicating US release.

and

2. US releases with Yellow UPC are the remastered releases, all of them.

If it had bilingual art, that would be a different story.

Just a heads up, the Yellow UPC for Canadian releases is unreliable. People have still been getting the older transfer.

Anyways, based on what you described for us, you have the remastered version.

kindly confirm.

Oh, yes! It's the remastered version alright, and it's BREATHTAKING!!!!
I couldn't believe how beautiful this film was!
I hadn't seen it in a long time, and it almost was like seeing it for the first time.
Really glad I bought this movie, despite the hefty price tag!
It really is an amazing film where everything is done right, although I think the score is a bit too Trevor Rabin style (Yes, I know it's a Hans Zimmer score) at times.

Film: 4,5
PQ: 5- (Only a few specks hold it back from absolute perfection. Soft shots are inherited from the the source material and therefore don't count)
AQ: 5

A must have disc for sure!

I was confused too. Why don't they provide everyone with the necessary information on PAGE 1 of this thread?
I had to search endlessly to find out whether I had the corrected version or not. The thread is massive, and it would be so much more helpful if they'd just do as I suggested, as there are still people who want to make sure that they have the right one WITHOUT having to open it first.

You got the same disc from Amazon as I did, and if that is the first issue I will gladly eat my hand, because I am really sensitive to image quality, but there was pretty much nothing that tampered my enjoyment of the film.
Quite on the contrary, the costumes, locations were a sight to behold!

Default I just bought mine.

I haven't watched it yet, but I think it is the remaster because not only is the UPC yellow, but the copyright on the BD case (not slipcover) says 2010 rather than 2009.

Geez, so how the heck are we Canadians going to know if we're buying the old or new release?

No idea. Safest bet is buying it from amazon.com.

Bilingual cover art? No. You have the remastered copy thanks to Paramount US. Yes. You have a fifty-fifty chance thanks to Paramount Canada.

I saw a lot of copies at my local Wal-Mart with the old white UPC. It just seems wrong to me that studios continue to sell stuff that they know is defective rather than pulling them off the market.

You might want to check the back...

All copies with Yellow UPCs in the US are the remastered version.

and

All copies with a White UPC that are missing the words "2-Disc Set" above the Paramount logo on the actual art, not slipcover, in the US are the remastered version.

-

The release is also not "defective" as per the accepted term of defective. The only issu with the original pressings is the fact that it had DNR and edge enhancement applied to it. This is not a defect nor should it be considered a defect. Paramount and Universal have both been kind enough to provide a replacement to consumers who would like a version without the DNR & EE.

The same can be said for Let The Right One In where alternate subtitles are included on the initial pressings. It is not a defect but Magnolia did repress the disc with the original theatrival subtitles. Unfortunately, Magnolia is not providing replacements for consumers.

I bought mine last week from the nearby Best Buy. Five copies were on the shelf and I went through each one of them to see whether they are all remastered versions or not. All of them had yellow UPCs but one. I looked for the words '2 Disc-Set' above Paramount logo on the actual art and it was there. So that must be a first version copy; they are still out there.

I just received my copy of Gladiator from Amazon.com, ordered 2011-04-18, shipped 2011-04-20, and it is indeed the remastered version, including a slipcover.

Default Remastered Version

I just purchased the remastered version this afternoon. The UPC is yellow and the copyright is dated 2010. The words "2-DISC SET" appear above the Paramount logo. In addition, the serial number on the belly of the disc ends in R2.

There are almost no words to describe the difference in the video quality; it's like someone came along and removed the Saran Wrap from my eyes.

That said, there needs to be much stricter minimum standards and quality assurance requirements in place to publish material in association with Blu-ray. The technology hasn't even reached its full market potential and these substandard releases are only confusing the public.
