Universal had the elements for Gladiator and produced the high-definition transfer for all territories. This includes Paramount who did not have the materials to do so. Universal created a new HD transfer and they released it first in their distribution market but it was a quiet re-release. They then provided this new transfer to Paramount for the remastered US & Canadian releases.

Well it doesn't look like just looking for the yellow bar code is enough to find the better transfer!

Want to explain your reasoning for that statement.

If he's in Canada, then he is right. Here, the yellow UPC means nothing. It's still the old version.

Barcode and year are going to be the same because Paramount did not discontinue the SKU number. They simply just used a yellow barcode with same SKU to indicate a remastered copy.

Bought the the set used from Hastings. Should I have the good version of gladiator now? What do I need to look for?

Apparently this is what it's going to take for me to a correct copy. That being said, I'm not sure what to make of the one Amazon just sent me:

It's got the yellow barcode but includes the "2-Disc Set" labeling that apparently signaled the original version. Is this, in fact, the corrected transfer? I'd prefer to just return unopened if possible but I want to make sure before I take that step.

Thanks guys.

Yup. With Paramount, a yellow barcode is an indication of corrected discs.

I think the other definitive way to tell is this:
Look at the back of the disc at the inner ring (the ring that has what looks like a bar code on it)
You'll need to hold it under a light and it's very small, but you should see the following number: 1B1R2 and that will prove it's the remasted disc.
If you see the number 1B1R1 then it's the old disc.
Hope that helps!

Do the Warner Bros. Reissue and the 3-pack with Braveheart and Saving Private Ryan contain the remastered transfer? Also, does the BD of Saving Private Ryan in this set have Audio Sync Issues?

If the disc art is blue instead of grey, they're the corrected versions.

I know this is a couple months old, but still thought it'd be useful. I own The Sapphire Collection and it does come with the remastered version of Gladiator and the corrected (blue disc) version of Saving Private Ryan.

My Gladiator disc is grey, but it is the remastered version. I've compared it with the screens on here (and AVS) and also rented the old version from Netflix.

Bought this awhile back, just got around to watching it last night --

WOW. Blu Ray makes this movie look even more incredible than it already is. Such a magnificent film. I always forget how good it is, until I watch it again.
