There: They will condemn any disc they can before actually viewing it and will often base their assumptions on screenshots or just random information manufactured well before the release date has even arrived. Experts or insiders...they don't participate over there.
And here they ban you if you dont' agree with their reviewers.

BOTH forums have their positives and negatives.

Overall, I find AVS MUCH more informative than these but you have to take some things with a grain of salt. There are certain issues that people over there have that I couldn't care less about.

It's like school: take what you need and leave the rest.

Now, can we get back to the disc and stop bashing AVS?

Great. So I hope everyone here that hasn't gotten it from Blockbuster or from a place that breaks street date can STFU.

I don't think review copies have even been received. Mine hasn't come yet.

Release date may not be until next month, but many of us have seen it already. But some here are jealous of that, hugely so, and they can't take it so they personally attack people and thow temper tantrums.

I do hope when BLU-RAY.COM reviews the movie they will address this issue with the missing fireball, arrows, etc (assuming this is true or not).

No matter what, I plan on buying this one day 1. I have bought all the other versions...even VHS! LOL!!!!

The extended edition is my favorite.

Right...jealous of you over something we will have next Tuesday. Why would we care if you or anyone else got it early? We're talking about a movie here Matt. Not a life saving vaccine...a movie. Get over yourself and go analyze some screenshots.

BTW, what happened to the guy who said he had the disk and was going to watch it last night and then post his review? I have been waiting for that one.

Hey genius, in case you hadn't noticed, I don't need to analyze screen shots. I can watch the actual move. The actual BD. I have ground to stand on in what I say. You don't. Which is why you just continue to personally attack people all day long.

I don't watch screen caps and I don't watch my BDs on a 100+ size screen. However, there are enough troublesome issues about this forthcoming release that I am going to wait to purchase it until a few sane individuals give their honest opinions. I'll pick up Braveheart on Tuesday.

It's been almost two years since the last time I visited this forum. It's sad to see blind hatred and something bordering on insanity still running rampant over here.

I suggest all of us who are supremely annoyed over this post a comment on facebook/twitter and really let everyone know that it's apparently okay for a studio just to throw a unacceptable flawed high def transfer onto bluray and think it's acceptable - it aint, regardless if the bluray is only 16 bucks over at Best Buy (with the purchase of 'Braveheart')

I am sorry, but if I read that say 60% of those who see the screenshots have proof in front of their eye's that its not that great, what incentive is there for me to buy the movie to see it myself?

Oh ok, I buy the movie for $25 and say "Yeah, they were right its garbage".

The point is Paramount made an inferior product to that what was possible. That is a disgusting habit that we don't want to continue. If you want inferior products to that what is possible then vote with your wallet. My $25 stays in my pocket.

If Paramount want any more of my opinion they can PM me.. Idiots.

the disconcerting thing to me is that these preliminary reviews indicate the extended scenes "clearly" look much better than the rest of the film. That would be pretty jarring to be looking at an image that looks nice on the surface, then boom, an extended scene comes up next that makes the prior shot look totally subpar. I dont know if I'm cool with that.

Thumbs down

I thought this was a discussion about the PQ but I've gone through three pages so far where the only thing people are saying is how happy they are to hear that the movie is going blu. And that's not even being done very well.

Exactly. No reason to buy this title just to confirm what others are saying. I discuss other movies and the quality of the BD every day with folks who have given their opinions and I trust them. They saw it, I trust them from past experiences so why not now??

this reminds me soo much of what happened with the star trek transfers. EVERYONE was complaining and crucifying paramount for blus that havnt even come out yet based on "speculation" i'd prefer not the judge an entire movie based on ONE screen-cap. yes i bought the star trek movies and i enjoyed them, thought they were worth my money. i'm willing to bet gladiator isnt as bad as everyones making it out to be. perhaps it wont get the treatment it deserves (which i agree is a crime) for such a huge title... but still, lets just wait till some solid info comes out b4 everyone starts to already condemn a transfer they havnt even watched yet.

I didn't tell you to analyze screenshots of this film. I'm sure you will be analyzing shots from a different one that you actually don't have very soon. They will kick you out of the club if you don't!

Anyway...back to the disc.

Well its my first post but ive been lurking here for months now. I actually watched Gladiator last night on BD. I was reading the forums before watching the movie so i was expecting poor transfer. I thought the PQ was great. Mind you i have a 40" Samsung LCD 720p 1080i TV. So i dont have the best TV available. And if someone owns the same tv you should know how the sound is on them . But other than that i was expecting many 'grainy' scenes but i dont remember a scene that was grainy at all.

Even though i didnt get to it yet, the only bad thing i can say is that the Special Features is in Standard Definition which sucks.

Other than that, if you own the DVD i say its a good upgrade. But ofcourse look at more reliable reviews when they come out. If you dont own the movie then i say go out and get it. Definitely worth it.

Now for Braveheart...gonna be watching it tonight
