I'm gonna get it and hope enough make a stink that they re-do the transfer and offer replacement discs later ala The Fifth Element.

I went to two Blockbuster Video stores. Both had Braveheart available for rental with the copy sitting on the shelf. Gladiator had a slot but no copy was available in either store.

I take Braveheart to the counter in each store. The guys working in each store says after looking into the computer that this shouldn't be out on the shelf as it releases on 9/1. I questioned each of them about Gladiator afterwards as folks obviously were able to rent those. I will not go any further!

Here is a novel idea....maybe if everyone would not accept crap on a plate from studios and refuse to purchase such a turkey then maybe the studio would reissue it. But by your logic lets all go get it and hope they replace it. Funny fro most of you its like if you dont have a film right now regadless of quality you are just gonna die! Guess what, you dont have it now and you are living just fine without it! Force these studios to start releasing quality!!

Elvis...you need to look at the larger picture here and keep in mind the people on this forum and others represent the minority when it comes to everyone buying this movie. As it seems, the right people are trying to get in contact with the higher ups about the issues...I'm not saying holding back from buying it won't help, but you act like it's the deal breaker between studios fixing this or not fixing it and imo it's really not. This is probably going to make major profits and the only people buying it are not just on forums. If anything, I would guess an onslaught of poor reviews would help pressure Paramount to rerelease or fix this....can anyone shed light on how Fifth Element & Full Metal Jacket ended up getting re-released?

Now if PQ is your only requirement for a film then you are not a true film enthusiast, but a PQ ***** and will have only a very limited collection of films in your library, as there are not many ( if at all) that are perfect.

A film shoul be about an immersive experience and all elements of the film should be evaluated to decide if the film deserves to be part of one’s library, NOT just PQ. We all want the best transfer possible and studios should be held to account, but telling people not to purchase a film based on screencaps is idiotic at best.
Paramount Home Entertainment Introduces the Prestigious New 'Sapphire Series' Presenting Academy Award(R) Winners in Spectacular High Definition For the First Time Ever

Highly-Anticipated Blu-ray Debuts of Gladiator and Braveheart Kick Off Series on September 1, Followed by Forrest Gump on November 3

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Paramount Home Entertainment (PHE) announced today that it will release some of the greatest films ever made for the first time in high definition as part of its exclusive new "Sapphire Series". The Sapphire Series will capitalize on the pristine picture and sound of the Blu-ray format to present each cinematic gem in the highest quality for the first time in two-disc, high definition sets*. The series will kick off on September 1 with two of the most requested Blu-ray releases, Braveheart and Gladiator--both winners of five Academy Awards(R) including Best Picture--followed later in the year by six-time Academy Award(R) winner Forrest Gump. Each release will include extensive, never-before-seen special features for the ultimate presentation.

"It's absolutely fitting that we're presenting the best films in the Paramount library on the finest home entertainment format available," said Rob Moore, Vice Chairman, Paramount Pictures. "Because of Blu-ray's phenomenal capabilities, the Sapphire Series will deliver the best pictures in the best picture."

If thats what they are pitching, thats what they should deliver.
If thats what I am paying for, thats what I want.

Exactly.

To say that it will be "amusing" to hear other people's reasoning is ridiculously condescending, at the very least.

I think I made pretty clear early on that I'm in the "not buying" boat. But Sus' post is unfortunately right on. A few dozen - at most - people not buying a release isn't going to make any difference. The vaaast majority of Gladiator Blu-Rays are going to be picked up by people strolling into Best Buy on Tuesday.

I won't be buying this release because I already know that the image will be extremely distracting to me and I won't be able to enjoy it. But I'm under no illusion that Paramount is going to notice my missed sale.

So if someone chooses to not buy it because they think it sucks, that's valid. And if someone chooses to buy it because they'll enjoy the release, that's fine too.

Hopefully Paramount/Universal will realize that this title is problematic and do the right thing with a newly mastered re-issue along with a trade in program. Then we all win. In the meantime everyone just needs to decide for themselves if they're going to enjoy the current version and go with that.

That wasn't what I was implying, I was just trying to aim my question at the Insiders or others that had reputable information about the re-release

Then - Interesting to the point of boredom.

I've already read all the "how to's and wherefore's" that were incorrectly posted as fact before.

I really don't think Fifth Element is relevent to this thread but if it helps to end the aimless speculation then I would love to hear Penton. I'm all for limiting speculation and giving people with an agenda a platform.

Perhaps later.
I want to go watch the game.

Why is it that it seems that so many people "with an agenda a platform" have roots from other forums.

I think everyone in this thread needs to take a damn breath.

Nothing is going to change, at the moment or possibly for the forseeable future.

If it will, we're just going to have to wait until Paramount responds to TDB.

I just have to say that I'm ridiculously surprised this issue got past Universal, who seems to really have their shit together.

After extensively reading through over 1000 posts I will buy Braveheart but Im gunna pass on Gladiator , my extended edition dvd upscaled will do until this film gets a proper treatment. Screw you Paramount , Braveheart may be a worthy Sapphire but Im not buying a piece of Green Glass being tooted as a Sapphire

I suspect the same might happen with 'Gladiator', but since it's is a much more high-profile release than 'Patton', hopefully not.

Now that Bill Hunt has weighed in on the matter (I trust him implicitly!), my initial enthusiasm over this release has been tempered a lot, and now I'm waffling over whether to get it or not on Tuesday. (And no, I don't like to rent discs.)
Didn't Bill Hunt say that t2 2006 had better pq than skynet edition and then upon further review, change his mind a week later?

I think Braveheart is a better movie anyway.
The funny part is that I love Gladiator and I've never seen Braveheart. All the controversy surrounding it turned me off...and I really don't like Mel.

Hmm I don't think so, and this was going to be my first "day one" one buy for me too. I'll probably buy it if the price drops around Christmas if there's no news on a re-release or something by then.
