I've got a PS3 80gig. It's odd...the first time it booted right up and I tried two other times and got the loading icon and it went black so I shut it off.

He approved the 2000 transfer that was used for the theatrical scenes on the Blu-ray. But his approval was in 2000 for a DVD release that would be watched primarily on 20 inch tube TV's without high definition.

Commonsense! I just do not understand if this is an oversight how can the studio be so utterly careless. Sapphire series is released and you go one for two, not a very good percentage in my book.

My did the same thing last night. The leaf crown loaded about 6 -7 times until, the main menu appeared. I had no problem watching the movie after that

Hmm... Mine did that for Braveheart, but then Gladiator loaded up right away. Was there some kind of update on the Sapphire discs? I heard they did that on the Ghostbusters BD.

Not sure. Maybe. I didn't check the BD folder on my PS3. I will try Braveheart tonight

Oh I so agree! I cant wait to compare this with his Patton review! Since in the DNR police jumped all over Patton and Martin gave Patton a 5 point rating.

I don't think it took more than 15 seconds for this to load and get to the menu on both my LG390 or PS3. Something wrong somewhere if you have either and it doesn't do that.

EDIT: oops, LOL, i meant to have 3:1 for 3.0, and 4:1 for 3.5/2.5, 5:1 for 2.0/4.0, etc. there's why i shouldn't be in charge of the betting

I think it'll be 3.5 or 4.0. He's a pretty generous reviewer from what I've seen.

If its not a 4.5 then the review will be a sham because I watched both Patton and Gladiator last night and Gladiator looks almost as good.

Unlike Braveheart, Gladiator uses immense CGI effects in most scenes. Everyone knows that CGI adversely impacts picture quality because of the processing involved in the effort of making the computer animated elements of the picture seemless with the live elements. It was evident when I saw Gladiator in the theater and on DVD. It was never the most crystal clear picture in the history of cinema.

I believe the only scenes that depend on CGI are the opening battle sequences. The scenes with the tiger, though they look kind of fake, were filmed on location. They simply reduced the amount of space between the actor and the tigers in post, ... at least according to Ridley Scott's commentary.

So the scenes where most people see the more obvious flaws are in the opening sequence, but you can also see differences in the transfer between the theatrical version and extended version. The theatrical is a little more muted, which is minutely distracting for me.
